Hey y'all! So Monday I found a baby squirrel in my yard that my dog got. He seemed fine, just a small bight on his left shoulder and a small bump on his left cheek/jaw. I thought maybe the bump was just a swollen bruise. But today I noticed it's a lot bigger, I tried looking online at picture of tumors on squirrels, but nothing really looks like this. Does anyone know what this might be? I'd like to find out what this is and treat it asap. He acts completely normal, and the bump doesn't seem to hurt him at all. Let me know what y'all think this might be. Thanks.

Looks to me like that is where the dog's other tooth probably got him. Yes, this little one is going to need antibiotics. Do you have any available? If so let us know what kind so that one of the more experienced members can tell if they would work and could figure dosage for you.
Hope this little one feels better soon.

Agree abscess, need antibiotics. :thumbsup
I would also hold a wet warm cloth cloth
on the abscess to see if you can get it
to come to a head and drain.
(Not to hot, don't want to burn baby)

Why do people post emergencies and then go off line?
This happens ALL the time! :tap

It is frustrating, especially when posted in the emergency forum.
I think somewhere on the registration, there should be a place that tells
them to keep refreshing their screen.
They could be sitting there waiting for an answer for
3 hours, thinking nobody got back to them, but they are NOT refreshing their
screen.
That was not the case now though, and if this little one needs abs. I sure hope
they come back on. :shakehead

:wave123 estherglows and :Welcome Thank you for helping this little one :Love_Icon Do you have any antibiotics...all you would need is one ....cipro is a good one...or even amoxicillin ....maybe ask around friends and family. Usually people never finish and have one still in the bottle :thumbsup also, we'll need a weight ...grams would be best. Do you have a kitchen scale? They usually do both grams and oz's...we can convert if we have to :thumbsup

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back! I looked around for a gram scale and couldn't find one so I thought I'd try the warm cloth on the abscess. I started that Yesterday, every 2 hours I'd place a warm cloth on the abscess, for 10-15 minutes every time. And today at 10am the puss came out, all of it! I am very surprised how fast it worked!! Now I'm keeping it as clean as I can. His cheek/jaw is already looking so much better! All thanks to you guys! I couldn't have done it with out you. :thankyou

:thumbsup So glad to hear it is draining and the little one has got to be feeling better without all that puss inside. How are you keeping it clean? Hydrogen peroxide is not good but a diluted Betadine solution would work well. I think a 50/50 mix of water and Betadine is recommended, but if I am wrong I am sure someone will post a correction.

You really should get antibiotics into him. Facial abscesses are notoriously bad. Do you have antibiotics? I see you looked for a scale, but they're sold in tons of places - Walmart, Target, many grocery stores, etc. - for $10-20.
Did you flush the abscess with a diluted betadine solution?

Speaking from experience...Get a scale! Extremely important. Also from experience of someone who had to purchase FOUR scales before one would work correctly - The Taylor brand digital (its gray in color) from Target is $22.99 and works FABULOUSLY! :grin3 Whatever these people tell you to do, DO IT! You are in excellent hands!:Love_Icon
