sorry about the multiple posts on this but I really need help. its about Sam. He needs to be released and soon, my butt is on the line. contacted a rehaber here in my city but she said no, she's going on vacation. She is also the one I contacted about a year or so ago about getting my permit and she said no then too because that was her "last year" rehabing. Sam is a 17+ week old red foxer, pudgy and very sweet. I love the little guy dearly. but releasing him here would be a death sentence due to location site. Not sure if hard release should be an option due to his being a little over weight and dependency of his nesting box for shelter etc.. He is healthy no issues, no med treatments nothing of that nature. I tried the second hand ranch via maps but am unable to travel 5 + hours one way and was dually warned about taking him across state lines. All I am asking is if someone can find it in their heart to take him, acclimate him for a week or two and release him where his chances of survival are much better. Please I am desperate. anyone please in IN..please maybe a train or something...anything...I can meet someone somewhere, please I desperately need help with this, not just for my sake but for my Sammy Snuggles :dono:sad

Hang in there, don't do anything until someone in your area can help. I am sorry to hear that you have to quickly give up this squirrel.

Wish I was closer, but maybe someone in your area will step up or a squirrel train can be organized soon to get this little guy released to the trees via a soft release.

Hey Linda,
I live between Cinci and Indy.
I have never had to release one before. I'm not sure how to acclimate this little one to the wild.
I'm on vaca in CT now going back to IN on Sunday.
We can meet next week if you want.
Sammy is more than welcome in my home.

Oh thank you thank you!! Indy is about 3 hours from me, He is such a sweet boy aka pudge muffin <3 It should be fairly easy to acclimate him, he has been out a couple times but here I live right next to a 6 lane highway and neighbors arent thrilled about taking care of area wildlife. We see birds, chippies and squirrels on the sides of the roads all the time :( I tried rehabers near me but no luck..no one seems to want to help. I love squirrels so much they are angels in fur :grin3 I dont drive long distances due to disability :grouphug:Love_Icon:grouphug:grouphugbut perhaps my hubby can make arrangements with work and we can meet somewhere or make arrangements. your response is a huge ray of hope,

I'm sure we can work something out.
I have never been up by your area. I have only lived in IN for 3 yrs. I'm always up for a new adventure!
I'm driving back on Sunday (13 hrs)!
PM me your phone # and I will call you Monday. I will PM you mine.
My brain will be mush on Sunday. LOL

I can't release in my yard.. no trees, however a very good friend does live in the woods and said all (releases) would be welcome.
He loves squirrels and loves to sit on his deck and feed them.

Do I need to know if there are foxers in his yard?

Sorry for the questions. I like to be prepared. My dad always said "only smart people ask questions if they don't know the answers".

Foxers are usually pretty prominent in IN. You can ask him if you like it may help some. Because if there arent any, other squirrels may "see" the differences in Sam and he may be targeted as a weak link. Being in Indiana though I don't see much of a problem. We have black, grey, red/brown and foxers coexisting in many areas. does your friend have a release cage? I sent you PM with my home and cell # Again thank you sooooooo much!!

My little pudge baby Sammy Snuggles was just picked up by his new mommy ctmom a little while ago. It was hard especially after they left..I broke. but I know its better for little Sam and much safer too. He responded to her very well I think. usually if he feels threatened by someone he lets me know it and loudly. I pray the transition goes well for them both. I will miss Sammy a ton. He would watch me at the kitchen sink from outside in his cage and when he would hear me he would get excited. I would stand in his cage and let him climb all over me as he would just purr and purr. it's hard. a bitter sweet day indeed ...Thank you again to ctmom, I know you will take good care of him and love him like I do :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:grouphug :)

Thank you Linda R for sharing this sweet boy with me. He is an absolute doll. He is so affectionate and is letting my husband and I pet him already.
He does like to watch tv! LOL!
I promise you that he will be loved and cared for forever. He will always be welcome in my home.
I'm very fortunate not to have to worry about being reported.
I'm in love already.

It was nice meeting you and your family. Thanks for the coffee. Call or text anytime you have the Sammy blues. I'm happy to give you updates. Btw, he is still resting on the bar.

LindaR, I know your heart is broken today but I'm sure at the same time a weight has been lifted knowing that Sammy is safe. That was a very unselfish thing you did in sending Sammy where he would be safe and have the opportunity to be free if he desires.

ctmom, that was so kind of you to step up to help Linda. I could sense the desperation in Linda's posts. I am so happy that Sammy is making himself at home. :grin2 He sounds like such a special little guy. This sounds like a match that was meant to be. :thumbsup

Well thank you everyone. LindaR is the hero for putting Sammy's well being above her own happiness.
Sammy is helping my heart heal after losing my little boy Monkey. He is an excellent fit for this family.
I never knew a squirrel could be such a snuggler.

ctmom has really been the hero in all this. saving Sammy from would could have been a tragic end and me from those who do not have a heart and would rather me be punished for being obedient to God's wishes "be harmless as a dove" (Matthew), "thou shalt not kill", so on ans so forth... I sure do miss Sammy. this week has been a challenge but gets better as time goes on. Knowing Sammy is safe and loved is what matters above all else..A HUGE THANK YOU TO CTMOM AND HER HUBBY. I pray Sammy blesses them as much as he has blessed me and my family :):grouphug:Love_Icon:thumbsup:thankyou

I am so sorry I missed this!!! More importantly though I am so happy to see that this story has a happy ending. Linda, your heart is beautiful and I am so very sorry that it hurts. Linda I'm sorry you are hurting. People can be so cruel.

You and your husband are amazing! You have a huge heart and a gift from God to heal. You embrace that gift and share it with others.

I'm so happy you shared this beautiful sweet boy with us. I am in love. That sleepy face of his makes me melt. His personality is really coming out.
You were not kidding when you said I will know when he doesn't like something. He is alot more active now. He loves climbing all over that cage and jumping from the cage to the barstools. He loves exploring and has taken special interest in the bedroom. LOL!

I hope this gets easier for you. I can't imagine being forced to give up one of my "children". You did it lovingly, so he would live!

Please know Sammy is well loved here. He even lets me kiss him. I love the squeaks! My house felt empty after I lost my grey (Monkey) in the spring. Now it feels complete with Sammy.

Thank you.

If you are ever this way, you are always welcome to visit. Please call or text anytime. I want to help with this transition if I can.

Sammy has the sweetest face. He loves people. He gives kisses and loves to play with his new mommy.
Linda has made the ultimate sacrifice for his safety.
Sammy has quite the personality and has taught me so much about foxers.244590244591244592244593
