Is it weird that baby Lennie never cries? She makes little grunts and squeaks when she eats and does what I call the huff of disapproval; (when you do something that doesn't please her, like taking to long to get the nipple in her mouth, she makes this quick sighing sound) but she has never cried for her mother or for any other reason. Is that normal?

My 5 year old boy grunts, he purrs really loud, and he will squeal in disapproval if you take him away from something he wants, but he was a silent baby, and never, not once, did the mommy call, nor has he ever alarmed or made any other sort of noise. I am sure it is why I have him instead of his furry mama - he never called once he fell from the nest. He is perfectly fine, just a man of few words. They are all little individuals. Some are loud and some, like my P, are Marcel Marceau!

I acquired pip at 15 grams with his cord stub. One of the reasons his mom rejected him or did not know he was alive was because his siblings screamed that chirp. He has done it a total of 2 times. Literally. Before his eyes opened he traveled with me everywhere . I think it's cause I am in his face with food and love all the time.
Tess and basil screamed a lot the first 3 days (4week olds) but really ever now.
When I got these 6 pinkies... They screamed all the time. Now they rarely if ever do.
I think it's normal for them to be quiet ( not scream) unless they HAVE TO.

As you can see, the fact that yours is quiet means that you are doing a good job meeting his needs...:Love_Icon

Is the "mommy call" your referring to the high pitched barking sound? I recently acquired 2 babies, sadly the little boy passed away last night. It stormed pretty good at my house Thursday evening and Friday morning I heard my dogs going crazy in the back yard. I went out to make sure it wasn't a snake or anything and found the 2 soaking wet clinging to the bottom of the tree. I brought them in dried and warmed them then set them out under the tree in a box and old shirt rags with a heated bottle of water and watched for most of the afternoon but no momma showed up and I couldn't find a nest. The little male was sneezing quite a bit so I'm thinking maybe pneumonia? Anyways the little female seems to be doing OK but does grunt a lot and makes some really high pitched barks like she may be in distress. I really hope it's just her mommy call though. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. She is around 5-7 weeks old. Her eyes are open and top teeth are emerging but her tail is still slick instead of fluffy. She is eating approximately 6 to 10 cc of Esbilac milk diluted slightly with water 5 times a day and I'm helping her urinate and poop but she seems able to do it on her own as well (I figured better safe than sorry) I have also been putting out broccoli, avacado, peeled green grapes and a smidgen of watermelon twice a day, although she is not at all interested, and I've also been giving her Pedialyte twice a day. Am I doing too much or maybe not enough?

Hi katiehen,
You can start a new thread in the Non life threatening section for your baby. :thumbsup
Welcome to TSB
Discontinue the Pedialyte. It should only be given for 24 hours. If you feel she still needs additional hydration you can give sugar water or plain water. The 'Pinch Test' will determine if she is dehydrated. Pinch the skin up on her shoulders. If it goes down, she is not dehydrated. If the skin stays up, she is dehydrated and needs additional hydration.
How are you mixing the Esbilac? By now, she is probably ready for full strength formula which is 1 part Esbilac powder to 2 parts water.
The cry probably is her missing her mom. Poor baby. She needs rodent block as a first food. Henry Healthy Blocks , Harland Teklad, Oxbow or Zupreem Monkey biscuits are choices that are good. Many here use Henry's Healthy Blocks. They are available online at Henry's Healthy Pets.
Start a new thread and we will be looking forward to seeing pics of your baby. :grin2
