Got two in tonight.. another tree cutter. Man did not speak great English.. but he said one was already dead. I am sure he had not fed them.. they were in a beach bag too.

One boy one girl. Both have fleas. Tess and Bush.

Both 85 grams. Girl is a gorgeous red.

4 weaks maybe. Mostly furred. Eyes still closed. Pics in the am.
Girl Tess looks ok
Boy has badly bruised hind thigh rectum area.

Both pooped. Both dehydrated. Re hydration has been started. No Urine.

So.. heat, hydration...

Man they look so different from pip .. his tail is thick and flat.. theirs is BUSH. They seem more muscular .

But anyhow.. How do we get rid of the fleas? I only saw one on the boy.. but I am sure they both have them.

Defiantly keeping them separated from Pip at this time. Till we get everyone better and parasite free.

I have NO idea where they were found. I think in my neighborhood.. but like I said.. It could have been yesterday really.

Assuming I do not give milk till I get urine.. and even then I transition.. But is that OK that I do not give milk till we get urine?

Each took about 5 cc of rehydration sugar salt solution.

Dawn dish soap works great for fleas. You can bathe them or just wipe them down with a dilute solution.

Yes, hydrate first. Are they dehydrated?

Just do the Dawn.

I like Baby oil because,, Interesting fact about Dawn soap - it is on the Mayo Clinic list of household chemicals to avoid - dawn has quanterium 15 which produces formaldehyde when contacts water - the Quanterium 15 ingredient is in many household chemicals including baby shampoo

Quanternium-15: - A formaldehyde donor Quanternium-15 is a preservative and anti-microbial and a severe cause of dermatitis. It is also a teratrogen (causes birth defects in animals) ("A Consumer's Dictionary of Cosmetic Ingredients", Ruth Winters, Three Rivers Press, 1999) According to Dr. Epstein, "This ingredient is generally safe, BUT will break down in the bottle, or tube, or on the skin to release formaldehyde for which the evidence of its carcinogenicity is literally overwhelming."

Ok - dawn - how dilute ?

How would you use baby oil ? What does it do ?

And yes they are tenting bad and will not urinate. They have both pooped twice.
And had about 10cc in the last two hours.

I have only pips empty baytril shots needle wise. Probably NOT USABLE cause or sterility . So.. And I have never done sub q on anything this small.

Probably dilute enough that you can still see the blue a bit. You can always rinse if too much is left. The surfactants remove their protective coating and they drown. I suspect the baby oil suffocates them.

Just keep pushing the fluids. Maybe try every 20 min or how often they'll take it?

Subq is fast, but orally really is the best route for hydration fluids. Just lots of time spent giving drops of fluid until they fill out a little.:grin2
