View Full Version : diarrhea! help!
So yesterday my brother inlaw brought me 3 babies about 3 weeks old.. I have the long squirrel nipples and syringe feeding (1cc syringe) with attached nipple.. they love it.. every 3 hours they are eating 2cc to 3cc.. now my problem.. when they came thru was on the can premix formula Esbilac puppy.. So I ordered FV today (waiting for confirmation email) added heavy whipping cream to the already being given milk, and added dyne.. (added these for their last feeding). ..At their last feeding they jad switched from pellet poops to yellow diarrhea.. hoping adding the whipping cream and Dyne will help.. what should I do till the FV formula gets here?
Back ground for me.. I'm a Doberman breeder so neonatal care isn't new.. I am actually raising a pup that just weaned (had him since 3 days).. I have raised many many many coons, kittens, and fawns.. but squirrels are new for me (attempted a pinky back in the day and still had nipples on hand.. here didn't make it).. I am a vet tech and can give SQ fluids if need be.. just not sure where to go from here..
Thank you in advance
Savannah, Twig, Bark, Leaf (my 6yo always names our orphans on how/where they were found, these guys in a cut down tree)

Personally I would get them on Esbilac with probiotics, (the powdered) and then when you get the FV, you can do a 50/50 formula.
No whipping cream as that can add to the diarrhea.
What is Dyne?
Be sure to hydrate too between feedings (when they have diarreha,)
and no longer than 24 hours on Pedialyte.

What is Dyne?
I am fairly certain it is a high calorie liquid supplement. Something like 130 calories per liquid ounce or something like that.
http://www.revivalanimal.com/Dyne.html?feed=GoogleProductAd&gdftrk=gdfV2457_a_7c543_a_7c6978_a_7c23515_d_801&gclid=CMG1sMTDhMACFc1_MgodIkUAuQ, dyne is a high calories supplement that I always add to my formula.. didn't even think twice about adding it to theirs outs so natural for me to just do it..
Can I just add plain full fat yogurt for probiotics?

To hydrate between feedings meaning water? Or pedialyte? And continue the every 3 hours formula? Or should I go only to Pedialyte? Can I give kaopectate?

Honestly, with the problems they are having already, I'd just go get a can of the powdered Esbilac with Probiotics. It works, it's been proven again and again, and there are not many issues with it.
Not sure if it is still the same or not, but I was always told NOT to use the pre-mixed liquid formula. It would give them digestive issues. :dono
The amount of probiotics in full fat yogurt is minimal in comparison I believe.

Premix is bad. Get the one with probiotics.
And make sure you using proper feeding technique. Super important.

Oh no you won't just be using it for a couple of days. You will mix the Esbilac with the Fox Valley when it arrives. I don't think any of us feed FV alone anymore. Did you order the 32/40 or the 20/50. You may want to get the 20/50 if you didn't. There have been problems with the 32/40. :shakehead
