Just received two pinkies that still have their umbilicals tonight. I feel so bad, the finder contacted me around noon today, but she said they were pinkish gray with a little fur, so I pinned them as 3 weeks, and gave her the usual instructions for reuniting with mom, and told her I'd come and get them if they were still there when the sun went down, I thought for sure mom would come and get them. But I picked them up tonight to find two MAYBE a few days old PINK PINK babies, who she only then told me were looking a little dry. One looks like his back leg is a little bruised. I'm in the process of hydrating them with pedialyte now and I've got them on a heating pad. However Im super worried because they had fly eggs around their mouths, which always freaks me out. I've cleaned all the visible ones off but I'm concerned that some got in. Also a few of them were kind of attached (but i got them off) so I was worried they were maggots. They were exactly the same size as the eggs and looked the same, if they were freshly hatched maggots would I be able to tell the difference between them and the eggs? I can't get capstar tonight as the store is closed, should I get some in the morning? Just to be safe? I'd need help with dosing. Thanks!

Yes, I would give them all all Capstar in the morning...... 1/4 piece each, diluted in water.

By that do you mean cut a tablet in fourths? They are 14 and 15 grams, how much water should I dilute the tablets with? How often do I dose and for how long? Do I need more than the 6 tablets that come in the box?

How bad is the infestation of maggots? 14g - 15g is tiny!:eek

You want to get it all in them so a little water--just enough to dilute so it can be administered. Repeat in 24 to 36 hours to get rid of any fresh hatches. I THINK that's right. Capstar is amazingly effective and easy on a little system. That said watch after dosing just in case there's a problem. Did I get that right guys? I 've used it only once and it was miraculous.

Capstar is amazing, Yes you will need to section in quarters. You won't need but one so you'll have extras on hand.
I have always dosed at 1/4 tab but never have had to dose a pinkie. New info suggests;
~ Using 11.4mg pill:Dilute 1/4 tablet in 1cc of water and administer .01ml per each 25 grams of weight. ~
Since you are dealing with the tinys, I would go with the diluted dose.

Not really sure how bad the infestation is, I'm not entirely sure there's any inside at all, I just know there were quite a few near the mouth, and a few scattered up towards the ears, Im just worried that some got in. So since my babies aren't 25 grams yet, how much should I give them? My syringe doesn't have marks for .005!!
But I still stick with the 1/4 of a tablet dose regardless?

Please see this post above. Use this dilution:

Alright but since they are littler than 25 grams, how much am I supposed to give them?
So I cut the tablet in fourths, dilute one fourth in 1cc of water, and then how much do I administer?

And yes they are tiny! I'm afraid to even breath around them, let alone dose them with medicine! I just want to make sure I don't give them too much, they are so small!
It is very difficult to over dose with capstar, however they are very tiny. Just give them 1 or 2 drops each. Best to go by your drug store and ask for a 1cc (1ml) syringe, they will give you one for free, just tell them you are feeding a tiny kitten. The 1 cc syringes are marked in small increments and are easier to use to feed and dose babies. Be sure to check out how to correctly feed these babies.

Using too large a syringe can cause pneumonia, a problem you don't want to deal with clearing up!

Yeah I feed them with a 1 cc syringe and a miracle nipple, but the syringe only goes to 0.1 at the smallest

There should be lines on the 1 CC Syringe.
You will clearly see the .1,.2,.3
IN between say.. 0 and .1 there will be smaller lines with a bigger line in the middle. That is the .05 your going to want. Point - .03 will be three of those lines down from the top of the syringe. I can upload a picture of what my vet tech drew up for me for the injections.
And do['t feel bad.. I screwed up the other day with that. I was giving him .3 of meds. instead of .03

Good thing is Capstar can be overdosed and do no harm. They ARE tiny but I'd jump n and give them the dose. Anything that did get in needs to get out ASAP. Maggots grow crazy fast and if any do die internally you want it minimal. If any maggots are near a bodily orifice they'll bugger out FAST. I saw a maggot infestation exit from a Capstar treated Crow. If it was anything but maggots it would have been funny. Durn things were crawling all over each other to get OUT--and it happened almost instantly.
