Hi...just wanted to share my squirrel story...I live in palm harbor, florida ...and have lots of oak trees in my yard...last friday I was sitting in the sun and saw a big clump of moss fall on our roof...and then I heard some squeeking...I went over to the roof and just thought the squeeking was coming from a nest up in the tree...the next morning I went out to the yard and took a rake and pulled the moss off the roof and low and behold there was a tiny beautiful little pink baby squirrel in the moss...I called my mother immediately as she raised a couple of squirrels years ago...I picked the baby up in the moss and put it by the tree where the nest was...I waited and watched from a distance to see if the mamma would come back no luck...so I put the baby in a shoe box on a heating pad and ran to the store to get pedialyte and other materials...he was so cute and sweet the first night I didn't sleep a wink worried about the little thing...he would take a few drops of pedialyte..I didn't know about this forum as it would have been a HUGE help to me...I didn't want to hurt the precious little baby so I called a wildlife guy in seminole..vernon yates..my boyfriend and I drove the little squirrel to vernon on sunday..I cried the whole way there and all day after we dropped him off...vernon said he was in good shape and would take care of him...I battled so with my decision but was terribly worried about not doing everything right for the little guy....I have prayed that vernon is taking good care of the baby and the baby is okay....I still hope I did the right thing :(...anyhow I love reading all the squirrel stories...I have been feeding all our squirrels in the yard extra out of guilt lol...thank you for this forum...it has helped me feel a little better...Amy

:Welcome to TSB Amy and :thankyou for caring and rescuing that little baby.
You did the best you could do and hopfully the rehabber will do the best
they can.
The one thing you have to keep in mind is without your intervention that
little would have laid on that roof alone, helpless and scared without any
chance at all. You gave him a chance, you did good! :grouphug

We have a saying on here that proves itself true time and time again...
"Once one finds you, other's will follow."
Take this time to read our forums and prepare yourself for the next time around
and gather supplies to have on hand. It's a shame you gave away the heating pad
as it is an important item to have for a baby squirrel even if not a pinkie.
A (or several) 1cc syringes is a must also. You can also purchase the Esbilac puppy
formula with probiotics powered in can that keeps forever. Also a small bottle of
liquid infant Ibuprofen in case baby is in pain. Also advisable to have a scale
to weigh in grams as all meds for squirrels are dosed by weight.

O.k. I'll quit for now... :grin3
Let us know when your next baby comes around and keep a watch for more falling
moss. You can bet there are other babies besides the one you found...
