I'm rehabilitating 3 orphaned red squirrels and have been reading up on this/other sites. Two have just opened their eyes and the other still has her eyes closed so I put them at about 4 weeks. Should I be giving them warm baths, and how is that done? With a warm damp cloth? I am stimulating them to go the bathroom with a warm cloth and they are doing well, just curious about what a warm bath entails and how often I should give them one. Thanks in advance!

:Welcome mcam :Love_Icon and thank you for caring for these orphans :thankyou
On the question of bathing...honestly, I never bath mine...not unless there was a need :dono milk can be cleaned up with a damp cloth...and even with diarrhea ..I'd just submerge their bottoms in warm water...remember their body temp is higher than ours so it does have to be very warm to you ...not lukewarm :thumbsup these babies can not regulate their body temp....so emerging their whole bodies should only be done if absolutely necessary. And then done very carefully....with a lot of attention to drying them and keeping them warm...rice buddy with the heating pad under....I'd even use a dryer warmed towel...when drying :grouphug

Could you tell us more about their care, formula, feeding style, there is a lot of information out there...and I tell you from experience ...this is the place to get correct, up to date advice :thumbsup Again :Welcome :Love_Icon

Baths are not needed unless the squirrel is being treated for fleas (in this case use blue Dawn dish soap) or has diarrhea and needs to be seriously cleaned up. We do at times soak a squirrel in warm water if they suffer from bloat and need help in passing their poop.

Awesome, good to know-thanks for the info!!! I was weary of the warm baths because I know keeping them dry/warm can be hard after. I did another post with more info and another question here:

Thank-you so much for your help, info, and advice-seems like a wonderful community and I'm very glad I came to this site.
