Looks like he just bit a few of the capsules open. He had it on his breath. I smelled it when he was on my shoulder and he was kissin my nose. So I looked around and found the plastic jar chewed open and the pills all over the floor! He seems just fine right now but this just happened in the last hour. So I am watching him. He is active and eating and drinking his water. Nothing abnormal in his behavior. So any body have an experience like this? I think he just bit them open and didn't like it so I don't think he actually ingested much if any at all. What should I watch for? Thanks everyone!

I have read before that people give baby squirrels Simethicone. It just depends on how much the squirrel ingested

He is a grey tree squirrel, just over a year old, & weighs approx 2.5 to 3 pounds (weighing him is a challenge).

I just googled this....all I found was an infant overdose....which supposedly you can not "overdose" .... Side effects could be loose stool or constipation :thinking that makes sense :shakehead I think you're ok ....but this if definitely a lesson on what a squirrel will get into....and could have been fatal if another drug. I would definitely keep a close watch :dono I'm wondering if you should push fluids or something fiber-like? I'll see what else I can find out :Love_Icon

Edit: According to one of the Flyer's Forums ...you can not overdose :dono

Everything that I've found seems to indicate that this probably isn't life threatening, but you might want to push fluids. If you're really concerned, seeing that it was under 2 hours ago, you might want to get some activated charcoal from a drug store.

I have to give my bunny simethicone occasionally for gas (she weighs two pounds), and I was told on the rabbit forum not to worry about overdosing. Apparently the medication's method of action is mechanical, and it just passes through the digestive system without being absorbed into the bloodstream. Not an expert - just passing along the info.

:yeahthat:goodpost
This is the best advice and lesson for this one.
Fluids/Flushing is always recommended when
they get a nasty in their mouths but personally
I don't see anything below to panic over considering
he didn't ingest a boat load.
GAS-X EXTRA STRENGTH (simethicone) tablet, chewable
• each tablet contains: calcium 45 mg

Inactive Ingredients

calcium phosphate tribasic, colloidal silicon dioxide, D&C Red 30
aluminum lake, D&C Yellow 10 aluminum lake, dextrose, flavors, maltodextrin, starch

OK, thank you everybody. Just gave us a scare. We do NOT normally leave anything out, it was just one of those things that happened due to a distraction. He is doing just fine and normal and you have all alleviated any fear we had about this incident!
