I have two 5 week old baby red squirrels. The Male (Steve) is doing fantastic. The Female (Olivia) was doing great when I first got her. She was the bigger of the two, and ate like a champ! However, on 7-4-14, it was like she hit a wall... She quit eating, has no energy, and just lays around. I am a Vet Tech so I have access to many treatments. She was quite dehydrated to I have been giving her pedialite and SQ fluids. Her breathing is a touch heavy but there is no "clicking" or wheezing. When she was drinking, she did get a little carried away and choked a little bit. I immediately stopped and gave her time to sneeze it up and cleaned her nose. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. It's easy to get attached to these little guys and I want to give them a fighting chance.
Thank you!

Hmmmmmmmmm, just wondering if this could be the start of aspiration pneumonia? If so Baytril would be the drug of choice. Do you have a weight on them?
What some of us do when the formula comes out of the nose is tip them forward for about 5-10 seconds, and then gently give a quick suck or two on the nostrils, and then wipe it off.

I agree with Nancy; it could be the start of aspiration pneumonia, and Baytril is the best for it. I have had 'older' babies who got pneumonia but did not audibly click or wheeze, so I didn't realize it until I noticed they were way off in their appetites and energy level.
