A little unexpected emergency:
A raccoon's house was found next to the release cage, literally within a couple of feet.
It looks like a huge pile of wood: branches, twigs, limbs and so on and so forth. This pile is about 3-4 ft. high and someone examined it and there is an opening/entrance, and there is raccoon poop next to the place.
Before this was discovered, several squirrels had already been released and one of them was even found sleeping on top of this pile of wood (pretty much, this squirrel was sleeping on the roof of a raccoon's house).
Unfortunately, the cage cannot be moved.
What's the most important thing - there are a few squirrels in the cage waiting to be released in about 5 days or so.
WHAT CAN BE DONE HERE?
These raccoons cannot be relocated - this is their place, and there is most likely a mother with her youngs or something.
BUT - is there any way to ensure/increase these soon-to-be-released babies' safety?
Has anyone dealt with similar situations?
The RC is predator proof.
The greatest concern is - once the portal opens and the babies start going in and out: how to ensure their safety?
ANy way to discourage squirrels from lounging on raccoon's roof?
Any way to encourage them to settle away from the RC?
Any....?
PLEASE, any and all ideas are welcome.
THis is rather urgent because the portal is supposed to be opened in 4-5 days.
Thank you!
