Okay so i just got my third set of baby eastern grey squirrels. The first set were two squirrels a boy, and a girl. I found them when they were almost 2 weeks old. Now i have 4 pinkes who two still have pieces of the cord left on their belly's. There are 2 boys and two girls, I think I'm over reacting but one of the baby girls is not as active as the other 3. She eats, and goes to the bathroom but isn't very active. Her, and one of the boys looks a little palish to me so that concerns me to. I been feeding them every two hours after re hydrating them yesterday. Does the palish color mean that they are dehydrated again? I would love all 4 to make it and join the 4 squirrels i raised outside so i really would love any advice i can get! I would have to say they are probably 3-4 days old.
Thank you!

Is there anyway that you can post a picture?
You have their container, half off and half on a heating pad
set on low, right?
May I ask what you are feeding them?
Do you have weights on them?
The two that are a little pale, are they staying on the heat?

Pictures - The two last pictures are the boy and girl that im concerned with.
Concerned Boy -12.3 grams
Concerned Girl - 12 grams
Active Boy - 13.4 grams
Active Girl - 13.3 grams
Diet
Esbalic Milk Replacement Powder
1/4 Whole Cream
2/4 Water
1 scoop calcium
I used that same diet on the last 4 i raised and never had issues so i just always kept it the same.
They all stay on the heating pad and feel warm.
Their color seems to go in and out, they look pink in good one second then a little palish another.
None of them are making clicking noises, only normal baby noises.
They all are eating, and going to the bathroom.
How do they look to you?

Stop the calcium now. :eek
A scoop of what kind of calcium.
When they are on formula they don't need additional calcium.
They look fine to me.
Let me find a picture of the Puppy Esbilac that we recommend, it
may be the same, but I am just a worrier.

Here's the formula that you need:
See the blue "banner" around the top saying with Probiotics?
http://nmognoni.smugmug.com/photos/i-86cvCdZ/0/M/i-86cvCdZ-M.jpg (http://nmognoni.smugmug.com/Other/TSB-resizing-2/38695429_GSBZbK#!i=3202045844&k=86cvCdZ&lb=1&s=A)
What we have found that works perfect for everyone, or almost everyone, is to
feed them this Puppy Esbilac with Probiotics and Fox Valley 32/40.
You just mix it half and half and it turns out healthy, happy, fat little babies.
Chris Clark from Squirrels and More suggested this, and this is exactly what she
is using this year.
Also do you have them on heat? (Low) The container should be half on and
half off the heating pad. Put a lot of fleece in the container with them, they
love to burrow down or crawl to the top depending on how warm or cool they
get. Always have them in a piece of fleece, they chill very fast.
What size syringes are you using, and are you using any sort of nipple.
I know you have done this before, but I am just double checking. :)
These are tiny little ones for sure, and OH SO CUTE!!!!!!!! :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon

okay i use calcium powder that is made for reptiles, it was recommended by another rehabilitator when my first batch of babies started showing signs of MBD and it fixed them right up. She told me it doesn't hurt to put a scoop in the formula batches. To confirm that is the formula mix i am using =) And yes they are on the heating pad low. right now the syringe i use is 1cc and no nipple at the moment. They barley will open up their mouths i just feed them drop by drop, it takes me like an hour for each feeding session. (LOTS OF PATIENCE). And it's okay i'm a big worrier too LOL! As you can see in my first post in this thread i mentioned that i was probably over reacting lol but these ones are so little everything is scary i cant wait for these next two weeks to pass! I pray that in two weeks i can post new pictures of 4 healthy babies!

I am so glad that you found us.
That supplement should never be given to babies, and it's questionable if it should even be given to adult squirrels.
And a rehabber said it didn't hurt to put a scoop in their formula............:bash
Well, just because you have a title doesn't mean you have the brains. Oye!
I'm glad that is the formula you're using.
I can send you some nipples if you want, I have
both the miracle nipples and the mother silicone nipples.
The babies seem to enjoy using nipples to suck, perhaps they
will be more willing to eat.
And you are feeding them according to their weight correct?
Typically it's 5-7% of their body weight. So for one that is 12 grams
the rule of thumb is between .6 and .84.
Oh my gosh you no sooner finish feeding
and you have to start again! :eek
PM me your address and I will send some nipples if you want.

SquirrelMama, please remember also that pinkies prefer their formula almost HOT. Their mamma's body was 102*F, and that is the temperature of the milk they expect to get. Many people don't warm the formula enough for pinkies and then believe the babies are "not hungry".......warm it up and you'll see them start Hoovering that formula right up!

IR and Nancy are the squirrel queens and IR KNOWS pinkies! They're babies. They want to nurse. The nipples will help the little guys get comfort as well as food at each feeding--ANd make things go more smoothly for you (maybe have an extra 20 minutes sleep!) Do you need fleece? Babies stay snuggled next to mama and each other. Fleece makes them feel safe and lets them regulate their temperature. They respond to warmth and a heartbeat. I wear my pinkies if they're any way compromised--in a sack around my neck under my shirt to keep them warm. I swear they respond to another body. Sweet babies :Love_Icon Grow up big and strong little guys!

IR thank you for the advice my last two feedings i made sure the formula was extra warm and they ate it right up! This morning it seems like all of them are VERY active and their personalities are starting to show! One of the little girls seems to want to suck her foot and eat at the same time and gets cranky when i pull he foot out of her mouth! The last two times i only had pairs of 2 so having 4 i already know by week 5 i'm going to have 3 other baby squirrels wrestling each other for the formula instead of just 1. It always amuses me how fast these little guys grow! I'll be sure to post updates on them i need all the Mama Squirrel prayers i can get that they all stay healthy! Thank you all again so much!

A tip for aging pinkies: that little black umbilical dot falls off on the 10th day of life. :)
