I was wondering if it is a safe thing to give a 6 year old Southern Flying Squirrel a chicken bone? I was told this is a good thing for them to chew on...... but I was a bit scared to do this because I know for dogs & cats they can splinter and cause internal problems. Any help on this subject would be helpful.

Yes, flyers can have chicken bones ... cooked of course. You don't have to worry about splintering like you do for cats and dogs. They chew tiny holes in the bone. I cook chicken wings for my flyers. I really can't tell that they eat it but I give it to them anyway.:tilt

Thank you for your reply......she is such a picky eater and I have recently....well since May been trying to get her to eat veggies.....she might pick a bit but she still does not eat a lot of the veggies. I have been trying all the dfifferent things on the food list for SFS from the squirrel board. I have also started to feed her live wax worms & meal worms. I was told that these are better than the dried ones. She loves these.

I have a picky eater also. It certainly can be frustrating.
Yes, the live WaxWorms and meal worms are great. :thumbsup
My picky eater will eat the hard squashes like acorn or butternut and avocado.
He would live on avocado if I would allow it. :shakehead
My boys love flowers like tiny Rose buds off of my Knockout rose bushes and hibiscus flowers also. :grin2

I always wondered about it too, but all the flyer experts said it was ok, so I have given them to my flyer for a few years now and she is just fine :)

I know this isn't quite the same thing, but Mrs. Skul told me to use these freeze dried chicken treats for dogs. It does make serving chicken soooooo easy, and my 2 girls seem to love them! I hate to cook. Unfortunately the love of cooking part of being Italian did NOT trickle down. Dangit... :shakehead
