My friend in Missouri found an orphaned baby squirrel and asked me to post about him here . She says, "He is estimated around 8 weeks old, currently undergoing treatment for a flea infestation. To treat the fleas, we used a reduced dose of Feline Front Guard. Since we got him, he's eaten a bit of fruit, and we're planning on giving him puppy replacement formula when we can hold him again. (We can't handle him right now because of the fleas.)"
right now she says heks in a box with a hot water bottel so he doesnkt get to cold. once the flees are removed shekll bring him in. she also told me the area sheks in have few to no predators in the area.
anything she should be doing?

He will not take the formula. They observed others his age and let him into the yard, but are continuing to observe him.

No cardboard boxes it will dry them out. Hydrate if need be. Pinch the skin between the shoulder blades, if it stays in tent form he is dehydrated, if it snaps back down he is ok , but still offer fluids. He needs hydration before food.

Thanks for helping out your friend, I know it is hard relaying messages back and forth...but my first thoughts are that I need to know more about this baby and the other babies out in the yard. Like did the squirrel come to the finder or did the finder have to trap him to help him? If there are others about his age out in the yard it could mean that they are all just exploring outside the nest box and Mom Squirrel is still nursing them or it could mean that something has happened to Mother Squirrel and so the rest will need help too. More questions...how many other babies are out there? Aside from the fleas are they all skinny babies or do they have long fluffy tails? Are they crying or making that sad call for their Mother? Are they playing, tussling and wrestling with each other? Sorry for all the questions, I Just want to help. :)

She said, "He seems fine, playing around the tree where we found him." perhaps he wasnkt orphaned after all. Ik'll have her on the lookout for a momma.
