View Full Version : A Lost Juvie?

someone came across a juvie-looking baby who seems lost.
The sq is roaming streets and sidewalks.
The person was able to grab him (which means the juvie is very young) and put in a box just in case.
The juvie tried to bite the finder and seems to be climbing and jumping just fine.
It's just that he is jumping and roaming in all the wrong places (traffic, people away from trees).
The finder is also looking for a family.
This juvie does not seem to be injured or anything.
And it's not a baby to be raised.
But to leave it out there when it's going to be dark in an hour may not be safe either.
The finder might be able to keep him inside for the night, but he has to work tomorrow morning early.
Will it be ok for the finder just to let him out in that area in the morning before work?
Any suggestions? -

ok, turns out he is not climbing that well - he tried climbing, got about 6 ft up and flopped on the ground.

Wow, is it just me or does this baby appear to have some sort of head injury, swelling? Or just a deformity, which may explain his strange behavior:dono I'd keep him in over night for sure :thumbsup

Darn, this one REALLY needs help.
He seems to have some dried blood around his nose.
He also seems to be leaning to his right a little bit.
WHich means, he might have hit his head or something.
Which means, there is a chance that he will be a NR.
Darn.
the QUESTIONS ARE:
1. SHOULD this juvie get any course of ABs in case there is something going on in his/her nose?
2. Or SHOULD the finder just observe until tomorrow to determine whether or not s/he needs ABs?
3. WHAT ELSE should this baby get?
This juvie-baby seemed feisty and all at first, trying to bite the finder.
BUt s/he calmed down now.

I don't know what AB would be best if you were to give and AB. Prednisone may be called for, but it is really hard to know without someone with experience having their eyes on him/her.

i thought about prednizone, too.
Will it hurt to give prednizone IF there is no head injury?(but looks like there is because he seems to be tracking to the right slightly)

ok, after the finder put him/her in the box, the baby seemed to calm down.
But due to some blood on her/his nose, the breathing is noisy.
It sounds like the nose is congested.
Please look at these videos.
What do you think?
What should/could be given in terms of meds (preventatively? or even treating something that might there based on the sound etc)

The finder is going to try and hydrate her for the next few hours.
Then, will try a GM formula.
BUt the question is - ARE ANY MEDS NEEDED?

I don't think that Pred will hurt him, but I am not sure. I do know that you can't use Meticam or ibuprofen for at least 24 hours before using Pred.

The only reason you might not want to use the prednisone is if you are worried it is an infection. Pred weakens the immune system so that would potentially cause an issue.

She looks so odd. I'm glad that she got help. They're no longer considering release in the morning, right?

i see... hmmm. what to do? what to do?
I also found out that I don't have any pred. left. Grr.
I do have ABs: smz and baytril left.
But don't know if that's infection in his/her nose, or just clogged with fluids, swelling and dried blood.
I could ask around for pred. if that's what's needed.
And I have ABs.

the finder will keep her for the next day or so, because right now I can't take anyone, and there is no one to take either.
Bad timing... UGH...
I am looking into my schedule right now to see if I could squeeze her somehow.
If needed, I can always come to the finder's place to help, too.
It's just such a bad timing.
this is not a good year for me.

I don't think it would hurt to start him on Baytril. Probably better to do that for the moment. You can always reassess in the morning.

In the video it is open mouth breathing with some increased effort. I would do a course of antibiotics but I have not been on this board long enough to make recommendations. I lost one a few months ago that appeared to have bite wounds in the face. It smelled necrotic and died before the antibiotics got a chance to work.

well, in person this juvie turned out to be a 190g 6-7wk old baby boy.
Camera is so deceiving.
He was tiny and he seemed to have neuro issues.
The finders were great and agreed to care for him (with instructions, of course).
He was put on prednizone (for his possible head trauma) and bactrim (there was some discharge from his nose - in case of infection).
He made it through the night.
The finders were going to bring him to me for a day because they are going away tomorrow.
I was looking forward to spending a day with the little one.
BUt before they were going to bring him to me, he started getting what sounds like seizures.
And he passed...
So sad... I held him yesterday... he was so tiny and so precious...
His name was Charlie...
Thank you all for your help and suggestions and prayers
