I am very new to this and never really thought about doing this before. I have always enjoyed fedding and watching them but not to have the chance to care for one up close like this.

A friend had a nest in his shop. He found a baby squirrel on the floor and looked in the rafters. He found an old box stuffed full of insulation with 2 more babies in it. He put a mesh screen to cover the holes so now the mother can not get in. He is out of town for days at a time. He was worried about something getting them in the night so he didn't want to just set them outside. He called me to take them and at least give them a chance. I don't have a clue what to do. What do I feed them? How often? Please help as they are so cute. I have them still in their nest along side a heater. I am so worried about this. Please email me as soon as possible.

Don't panic! Hi and :Welcome First step when taking in babies is to keep them on heat. We use either a heating pad set on low and place under 1/2 the cage/box/containor. We want to allow them to be able to move away from the heat if need be. Once they are warm and only after they are warm we can start them on fluids and then formula. Let us know some details. What kind or squirrels? How old do you think they are? We have pictures on other threads to help. When the babies are stable we can discuss your options of raising them yourself or help you find a rehabber to take them for you.

Just an update for those just checking in this morning - we met in chat last night and got the babies safely tucked in for the night. Hayleegirl should be back today with an update and pics. :)
