Hello everyone!
I've been reading this board for a long time and am delighted to be properly joining you all at last. I have learned so much here :)
I used to buy plain shelled hazelnut filberts from Costco as part of the diet of a a non-releasable who is unable to open shelled nuts himself.
I understood that they at least had a little calcium in them so were a good choice of nut (hope that's right!)
However, when I went to stock up at Costco yesterday, they've have dropped that brand and have replaced it with a different brand.
This new brand (Basse) is toasted and lacks the reddish-brown skin the filberts usually have.
The ingredients state 'dry roasted hazelnuts' and are not apparently seasoned or salted but the disclaimer on the front of the packet says 'may contain other tree nuts, peanuts, milk, soy, wheat, sesame and sulphites'.
Do you think these are safe to feed? Will roasting have diminished the nutrition? Should I source my hazelnuts elsewhere now?
