No, not normal; there is infection in his ears. I would clean them out thoroughly with a q-tip and mild solution of Dawn dishwashing liquid (very diluted). He may need antibiotics; do you have Baytril, Cipro, or any other AB's at home?

What about fish meds? A lotvof them are the same just smaller key ingredients and you can buy them at pet stores.

I am not sure what treats what. But maybe one of the pros on here will know. I do know they have all kinds of meds for fish. But you have to know what treats what and the doseage.

can't use clindamycin -- my book says it should not be given to any rodents.
First, clean out his ears carefully with the mild soap and warm water. See if you can tell if there are any mites, bugs, ANYthing of that nature inside his ears....we can go from there.
AMY...CHECK WITH THE PET STORE...SEE IF THEY HAVE A FISH MED CALLED FISH FLOX. IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS A UTI, IT'S LIKELY THAT THEY HAVE BEEN PRESCRIBED CIPRO (THE HUMAN EQUIVALENT OF BAYTRIL, A PET MED). BAYTRIL IS COMMONLY PRESCRIBED FOR INFECTIONS IN DOGS. MAYBE YOUR MOM HAS SOME. IT'S POSSIBLE THAT THE AB YOU HAVE WILL WORK, I DON'T KNOW. WHATEVER YOU END UP USING, SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO DOSE IT FOR YOU BASED ON HIS WEIGHT. (119G?)

It's so hard in the mornings because I check TSB first thing and THEN I start feeding my gang, which takes 90 minutes. hence the disappearing act....:hidechair

I am no pro. But could be mites that got out oh hand and infected. Not sure if it is the same with squirrels ears as a humans nose? But green is either virus or bacterial and yellow would be the opposite of such. Anyone know? I will check and see if I can find out.

Ok. In humans green is mainly bacterial. Now I am not sure in squirrels.

I think that Keflex would work. I see no prohibitions in the mammal guide book, and it humans, this is what WebMD has to say about it and treating ear infections:
Infection of the Middle Ear by H. Influenzae Bacteria, Infection of the Middle Ear caused by Streptococcus, Middle Ear Infection caused by Moraxella Catarrhalis, Infection of the Middle Ear caused by Staphylococcus
I don't know if oral administration is sufficient.
Seeing that it might work, though I'd wait on someone more experienced in this, you should tell us what strength pill or oral solution you have so that it can be dosed if appropriate. The books says that it's dosed 10-30 mg/kg.
Btw, are you close to Columbus in case you have to see a member there who's a vet student?

The ear drops sound very good to me, but I don't have the most experience with meds around here. Both drugs are used on squirrels without any problems so I think if you are very careful and don't drop in too much -- just a teeny drip -- they should do the job.
DID YOU TRY THE EAR DROPS? HOW'S THE LITTLE ONE DOING? :grouphug
