Hi, I don't know if this is life threatening, but I'm worried so I'm posting here. If I need to move this to a different thread, please tell me :)
We've had a baby since Saturday afternoon, about 5-6 weeks. I ordered the Fox Valley formula as soon as I did a little research that night and it should be here tomorrow or Wednesday.
I did pedialyte for about 18 hours. Since then I've been doing a very fatty raw cow's milk.
We are very rural with not many stores for miles around. I have some KMR in the freezer, but was scared to use it based on the stories of it possibly being poisenous. (I realize these are not good long term solutions, but just trying to hold over until the formula gets here.) Walmart only has the Hartz brand puppy formula.
She did not pee for the first evening, but then started peeing Sunday and since then has been peeing very well, clear urine, every time she eats. Sunday morning she had two largish, dark stools first thing in the morning. But this morning (Monday) only a very tiny bit of amber colored stool. It wasn't runny, it was just a very tiny amount. And since then, nothing.
I have read a few posts about how they sometime don't poo for 3 days when you get them, and other posts about how if they aren't pooping its very serious. Should I be worried?
She has a very good appetite, eats eagerly every 4-5 hours, about 4-5 cc each feeding. Her belly looks round/full when she eats, but doesn't look bloated or hard to me--but I don't exactly have a lot to compare it to! She sleeps pretty much the entire time between feedings.
So my questions are:
1) Should I switch to pedialyte or apple juice for a day?
2) When the formula does come how should I transition from the raw milk?
3) She pees pretty much as soon as I stimulate her, and the times she pooped, she pooped as soon as I stimulated her. But since she hasn't been pooping I've been stimulating her about 10 minutes more (even though she already pee'd, and even though nothing is coming out.) How long should I stimulate each time? Will I be able to tell right away if she has something to come out?
4) She really enjoys grapes and apple. Should I hold off on these until her eating and pooping issues are under control? I've been giving her a small piece of fruit each day.
Thanks for the advice! She is doing really well besides this worry, and is very affectionate and of course very cute! I can try to post a picture of her belly if that will help?
