Please please help I have been in a panic since I heard it. They are both doing it male and female click a bit not sure if it's with nose or chest I have immediate access to penicillin. They are about three weeks old and I know a couple of midnight feeding they aspirated but I tilted them up and let the liquid drain out before I continued feeding.. Please help me out please

I'm very burnt,s so let's make this quick. We can talk on phone if needed. Do they click with every breath? Listen close to breathing. if so, it's life threatening. They die quick from it. Pen is bad. Got any other antibiotics? Cipro/baytril is wonderful. Anything else? look quick. I'm fading fast.

Are you feeding properly:
http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?36777-PROPER-FEEDING-TECHNIQUE!!
And what and how often are you feeding? Are you using a 1cc syringe? Are you keeping htem warm with the heating pad set on low under their contaner?

In my rehabber book that is't listed as treating pnu, so you need to get somethikng better. Call your friends. A single pill can be all that you need. Tell us all the ABs that you can find. Pet stores often seel them for fish, birds, and reptiles. Fish Flox is perfect.

Most pneumoniae is gram positive, so that can work. Not the best, but it can. We would need a weight on the squirrel and the strength of the Cephalexin to do proper dosing. Don;t give it before proper dosing. ODs can hurt internal organs. if you don;t have a scale, provide a pic or a few for best guess on weight.
farrelli
04-26-2014, 03:17 AM
Is it the same? I'm sleep deprived, overworked, and have had a few on my one night a week when I can sometimes relax. How close is "same"? Dosed exactly? Never dosed it before.
farrelli
04-26-2014, 03:20 AM
Step, do you have a dosing guide on Baytril/Cipro? If so, I'll happily step out now. I wouldn't even want to begin to guess on a pic for weight anyhow. If you don;t, and could guess on weight, I have the dosing guide.
Tiffany319
04-26-2014, 03:20 AM
500 milligram

04-26-2014, 03:21 AM
Oh, sweet babies! Do you know weight? I'll PM Step for a best guess as I have no idea.
Tiffany319
04-26-2014, 03:25 AM
I don't know, I feel ashamed to day but have been feeding 2 cc every 3 hours.. And was about to increase by 1/2 another..
farrelli
04-26-2014, 03:29 AM
If Step doesn't come back, eyes still closed, right? I think that makes them TOTALLY ROUGHLY 90-ish grams. We'll wait on Step for a few minutes as best guess, but if he doens't come back in a few and properly guess weight and answer my ? about similarity, I'd propose that you wait three hours or so until our resident pharmacist (Nancy) is beck online.

Really not too advisable without proper weights but Let me look at some comparisons and see what I can come up with.
farrelli
04-26-2014, 03:31 AM
You need to get a scale ($20) not only for this kind of thing, but to tell how much to feed and how they're progressing. You feed 5-7% of body weight as a rule, which for a 100g sq would be 5-7 CCs, as an example.
farrelli
04-26-2014, 03:33 AM
Btw, you would feed about every 4 hours for these guys, so I think you're significantly under feeding. Step? Remember, I'm not super great right now. I got paged at 5AM for work and have been up since then, and had a few glasses of wine.

04-26-2014, 03:37 AM
On an average 3 weeks old should weigh between 70 & 80 grams,
could probably dose on the lower end and be pretty safe with the
looks of those two.
farrelli
04-26-2014, 03:39 AM
So you or me on the dosing? Quick!

go for it, I'm still looking 4 chart
farrelli

Here's my recommendation. Setp. double check me, and if you have the image that Stosh has of the 1cc syringe to make sure they're looking at the right thing, please post it.
Always shake it really well before dosing. refrigerate.

Btw, this dosages is for a 80G sq, as per Step's representation of average weight and that this drug is the same as Baytril. I'm tired and tipsy, but can still do basic math.

You know, as an aside, THIS is what I call professionalism. Lots of bullshyte is passed off as professionalism these days, and most of it is actually just doing unethical things to undeserving people in the name of self interest, and then calling that heartlessness "professionalism". But here Step and I are, two guys who have had disagreements in the past, working together towards a common good. The business world is absolutely awash is amoral self deception, but TSB is actually a pretty professional place (usually).

Cephalexin is Keflex, don't see where it's used for pneumonia ??

farrelli, you been sip-n the bottle, not going to say what I been doing. LoL
But here we are... good ol'tsb!
farrelli
04-26-2014, 03:59 AM
So it's not the same as Baytril? I was going by your statement. It is good for gram positive bacteria, but I don;t know if it's doesd the same. I was going by what you said.
Given the confusion, I would wait for Nancy who will be up in an hour or two. I will PM her now.
This was a gong show, though I stand by my statement of professionalism.

Made it as soon as you told me but haven't given them any so double the water.. I will do! I would do about anything for these two little guys right now!!

Ok I'll wait the clicking isn't constant at this point and they still move well

Yes, I have. I said that. I just did the math. You said it was the same as Baytril/Cipro and I dosed as such. I don't think the math is wrong. If your premise is incorrect though, and they;re not the same, the dosing guide is incorrect.
So, again bottom line, wait for nancy.

I use Nancy as my cheat sheet/guide. Here is her 250 Cipro info, so you would just double the water:
That's what I've been looking for and can't find but it sounds right to me.
farrelli
04-26-2014, 04:05 AM
So Tiffany, please check back in an hour or two. Nancy gets up at 5:00 - 6:00 and should have your answer. Though Amanda may have a vet for you, which would be best. But, buy a cale today!
stepnstone
04-26-2014, 04:08 AM
here's what I'm trying to convey...
Baytril is Ciprofloxacin
Keflex is Cephalexin
Two different meds, two different purposes.
Keflex might be better then nothing but it's not
spelled out for aspiration pneumonia according
to WMB.

Tiffany I'm here and will send you a pm in about 5 minutes! :thumbsup
Actually none of the drugs are good for pneumonia, is it possible to call around to get ONE Cipro pill (the drug for humans),
usually prescribed for UTI's,
or Baytril, same as Cipro but for animals.
Just for your info. NEVER give penicillin.:thumbsup

Sorry I didn't get your message sooner- I've been working doubles all week. I did PM you back.. I would call CSU ASAP since you are right there and see if they can hook you up with a closer rehabber- or squirrel friendly vet.. I'm sure they can, and you should be able to reach someone 24/7.. You might have to try several different departments but I know you can get in contact with someone..
