I never ever give up. I found one, I found one of the babies. Or should I say my dog found it and treed him for me. He need fluids I don't know if I can handle him. Does it have to be pedialite. He is thin and wired for sound> I don't think I am suppose to give formula first. Please reply fast. do I water or formula. Running to store now for pedialite. Oh thank you Father for putting him in my hands now 231751231750help me to help him. He is smaller than Fenwick. Just goes to show they get a good diet from us.

Make sure he's hydrated first. Plain water is OK and you can make substitute Pedialyte.
1 tsp salt (teaspoon)
3 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)
1 quart warm water
Mix all ingredients in warm water. Store in refrigerator.

Do the pinch test - gently pinch the skin between the shoulders and see if it tents or goes right back down. If it tents, he's really dehydrated and needs fluids before food.

He will definitely need fluids before feeding.
Give him the homemade pedialyte without the salt.
Just sugar water.
1 tsp salt (teaspoon)
3 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)
1 quart warm water
Keep refrigerated.
Put in some more soft stuff
for him to burrow into.
If you have a small bath rug with the rubber back, put that
in as well, it will make the floor less slippery .
I would cover the top and three sides of the cage, just
to help him feel less exposed.

Ok I have orange flavored pedialite. all they had with fruit flavor. Hope he doesn't bite. Not afraid of Fenwick a little apprehensive. Do I need to heat it?

ML,
If you think he's a biter, you might need to burrito him. Wrap him in fleece like a burrito with his head sticking out. He will probably readily take the fluids. Poor baby is thristy.
I'm so happy you found him. :grouphug

I would warm it up. Try to feed him in the cage.
If you can cover his little body and head with fleece,
then find his mouth and see if he will take it.
You can do plain sugar water for dehydration too.
Pedialyte is good if they are losing fluids from diarrhea or
vomiting.:thumbsup
Remember he is SCARED, so he might lunge or attempt to bite,
it's only out of fear.

If you have dawn dish det. you can give him a bath, but that might really scare him.
See if you can get kitten flea spray and spray that on something like a paper towel and go
over his body with that.
Don't buy hartz.
Let me check my book to see if they have other recommendaitons.
Hold on I am going to scan something for you.

I like the tape and the lint removers idea, (you know the sticky lint removers?)
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm wonder if that would work.

Thanks so much Nancy>I have a flea comb. I have advantage , and I have dawn. I am going to wait a little while. I want this baby more hydrated before I start putting any chemicals around him. Dont you agree or is it more important to get these blood sucker of him?
They crawled all over my hands. My room mate is gonna freak out because of all our babies (cats& dogs). We don't need a flea problems. Ok he just took 2 cc's of formula. He doesn't seem to want it so just going to let him rest a while.

I like the lint roller idea, personally chemicals make me wary but that's just me. Congrats on finding one. Keep an eye out the others may soon follow. I've been lurking and read your story yesterday, poor squirrel mommies. Maybe she will guide her other little ones your way....
Orphans this age are tricky and skittish and defensive, in my experience. But I know many approach people so let your neighbors know if they are squirrel friendly. Best of luck, sounds like he will relax having Fenwick probably helps since they know each other.
Lots of prayers going your way for this baby to be ok and any others to end up with you as well :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon.
Hey, Nancy. Something came to mind while reading over this.
I wonder if a very soft tooth-brush dabbed in the powder might work.
The bristles might allow the powder to get into the fur better.
Any thought on that?

Oh my, that definitely sounds like a fantastic idea. :poke Yes, that would work, and
it would get into all of the small places too.
Just make sure that you don't overdo on the flea powder on the brush. :)
I've also heard of people using food grade
Diatomaceous Earth for fleas.

this is what someone experienced shared once:
For the fleas, the easiest thing is to get some Dawn dishwashing liquid...dilute in warm water and dip a washcloth or folded paper towel in it.....wipe down the squirrel but be careful of eyes and mouth. Then re-wipe a few minutes later with plain warm water. Fleas will jump off and die -- works great!
Do NOT use any products like Frontline, Advantage, etc on a baby squirrel -- it will kill him. If you really see a lot of fleas, you can use Zodiak flea & tick spray for kittens & cats.

All your input has been great. Here is which way I am going just because of size and age and condition of baby. I am hydrating, he just got 3 more cc's pedialite. I have chosen to pick off the fleas as much as possible and comb for now. My instincts say he is tired has been through a lot physically and emotionally. I know they are not human but he has been uprooted from his home, his mom, his litter mates, his diet, plus a crazy woman chasing him. To night we are gonna keep it simple. Hydrate every few hours like every 2 hours till I feel he is in good place. I did give him one cc of formula. He didn't want any more. He just wanted to sleep. I am not putting him with Fenwick sorry if the seems wrong. My baby is healthy and pest free and disease free. I cant put him in the position for a possible set back. So for a day or so until the new boy is pest free he will have to be separated. Am I wrong for this? Tell me if I am. I just feel it is what is best for the moment. If I am wrong please feel free to tell me. lol I now feel I can exhale for just a moment. I give all thanks to the Father who leads and guides me. Thank to you all for with out you I would be lost. I am so very happy that I was directed to this wonderful website and all of its wonderful souls. Thanks in advance for all you do. Have a great night.

Morning all, Well the little one may be smaller but I think he may already be weaned. He will take the ped and some HHB. No formula, he totally refuses it, he is skinny but he is looking more hydrated. Still picking off the fleas I want to put him in with Fen. I will accomplish that later today. You know his coloring is much lighter than Fen. My room mate last night was teasing me she said I stole some other mothers baby. Not funny.:tap:tap All he wants to do is sleep. So should I keep doing what I am doing. Not getting any weight on him this way. Please feel free to chime in here guys.

Are you going to give him the Dawn bath or wipe down? I'd worry about flea eggs.
How are you offering him formula? Sometimes they prefer a dish.

Hello, I am not going to bath him. I am picking, and combing and then going to do the wipe down with dawn. He keeps shivering every time I pick him up. I don't think he is cold, although he is thin., I tried the formula in a syringe, the same for the pedialite. He will take the water not the formula. He takes about 3 to 5 cc's that's all. He does eat small amounts of HHB. I am afraid, I guess because I keep comparing him to Fen because that is all I have to go on. He needs food. I know we are suppose to use the blocks but with this little one maybe I should go to food. What ever it takes to get some food in him. I told you he is 2/3 the weight of Fenwick. He is thin. He does however look better with just the water. He just wants to sleep I tell you all day long and all night. His coloring is much lighter than Fen. I have to confess. After I had gotten most of the fleas off I held both him and Fen together. Nose to nose. The baby settled a little. Fen on the other hand said what is that and wanted back in his cave? He did smell him and then turn away. I guess they probably don't remember each other. Well again all input is welcome. I don't want to wait until I am in the critical stage to start asking questions. :Love_Icon

Penny, my little foxer from last season, was a stinker at first when it came to drinking. Looking at the pictures she was pretty close in age to your two. For two days I tried and retried everything I could think of to get anymore than a few drops at a time in her. Finally while standing in line at the pharmacy I spotted a package with a couple eyedroppers in it. I'd been wanting one anyway so I figured I didn't have anything to loose. To my amazement, the little stinker LOVED them!!! She'd lap the drops as I held the eyedroper. Not the ideal way but it worked for her.

Have you doctored the blocks to see if he likes them better? Some people heat them, cool them, cut them much smaller, pour formula over them, grind them up and add formula or yogurt, soak them in apple or blueberry juice, etc. Squirrels can be really picky and it can take some work to figure out what's right.

I am amazed everyday with these guys. Ok now Oh I wish he had a name. I like Ludwig, sounds good with Fenwick. rofl Yes I am a little nutz. Ok So here goes. Lud drank from syringe 10cc Pedi and get this one and half blocks. He likes them warmed and broke in half. He was rolling all around trying to steady himself . Oh what a clown. He still will take no formula. He is not a milk baby.So I think since he was a good boy I can start introducing some veggies. Fenwick on the other hand, he is my milky momma's boy. Yep He needs to be weighted but I am sure he is tipping the scales over 300gms now for Sure. Did I say pig? He is starting to pull away form the milk, but once he gets frustrated with not getting full by either the HHB or the tree he has now become very found of. It is a walnut tree no harm there Right? He then ask for his milk very insistently. I have almost all the fleas gone from the baby. They are very small you can tell they are young.. I can hardly see them they are so thin. I will tell you this. I am in dire need of a big cage. I went from one to two and am not prepared. I guess I never thought I would get this far in the program but I sure thank God I did. Do you remember in the beginning I said it was my mission to unite this family. I even bragged a little about being form Missouri the Show Me State. I think I might have even gotten a challenge. rofl I have but one thing to say. I DID IT lol. I may not have got to reunite Fenwick with his beautiful momma but I did find his brother. Tomorrow going to go :wallet:wallet:yardsale:yardsalefind us a new home. Thinking time to pull out those beautiful power tools that I adore so much and get creative. I have twin boys and I couldn't be more excited. Thank you Father for the love.
