I rescued my gray squirrel about 3 weeks ago from a yard i was doing work in. I was there about 4 house and keep here what sounded like a small dog so i got looking around and fund him under a large tree. there where many cats around even one siting a far looking at him but would not come around because i was there so i thought it was best i take the baby gray home. i started feeding him Pedialyte. then Jackie's Goat Milk Recipe. that was 3 weeks ago now he is up in walking. i have tried 3 different times to get Fox Valley for him but ever time i just get a email from them saying "We will contact you, inform you about the shipping charges and take your credit card information." but they never contact me again :(. He is gaining weight very well. I check it ever day with a gram scale.. but any ways... here for the past day the gray has been sneezing some times, he is acting fine eyes look good here is a picture of him from this morning v. I dont know if he needs a vet or not.

'Hi- Your little guys is adorable! Where are you trying to order your Fox Valley from? I get mine from Henry's Health Pets- http://henryspets.com/formulas/ They have a regular online checkout process.. I've never needed to have them contact me for credit card numbers, etc.. If you are trying to got it somewhere else, try Henry's.. they have really fast shipping too! Good luck... some sneezing isn't a big deal unless he has an actually nasal discharge, is not eating or eliminating normally, etc. My little grey actually has allergies- She had a major sneezing episode last summer and it was from the flowers my husband bought me!! I set the flowers outside, and no more sneezing!

Do you hear any clicking when he breathes? Listen closely. If so, we need to know immediately.
Very strange about the FV. If you can;t get it for some weird reason, someone found Esbilac on sale from Amazon:

I know we have a member in the Columbus area (squirrelsrule&bunniestoo) who's a rehabber and going to vet school, so if you PM her, she might be able to point you in the right direction or help you herself if necessary.

Hi Melvinew2
Your squirrel is adorable! One suggestion regarding bedding material. You would be better off with some old t-shirts instead of the towels shown in the picture. Your squirrel's claws may get caught in the loops of the towel and can cause injury. Good luck, you are in the right place for all things squirrely! (PS your squirrel needs a name)

No clicking I have been checking for that from day one it worries me a lot. I have put a lot of time in to helping this gray feeding ever 3-4 hours and so on. yea i will switch it a t- shirt for him. he has yet to get stuck to it but i will change it any ways. well i will try to get it from henry. I was trying from www.foxvalleynutrition.com. wont be till Monday i need to put money in the bank to get it. as my back is closed the next 2 day. I never named it yet because i was afraid he was not going to make it for a bit. but its been 3 weeks and he is doing great as long as he dont start clicking. I may just be paranoid . hay its my first baby gray. :thankyou

I wouldn't be too concerned with the sneezing, if there isn't any nasal discharge or clicking in the lungs. Squirrels are like dogs. They have a long nose with many scent receptors and when they are sampling the air, they will often "sneeze" to clear those scent receptors, just as a dog will do, when he is scenting something (ever seen them go to a fire hydrant and snort and sneeze? They are "reading" the scent of all the other dogs who have gone there). As long as there isn't either the nasal discharge (indicating a cold) or the clicking of the lungs (indicating Aspirated Pneumonia) I wouldn't worry and you definitely don't need a vet at this time. :grin2

Still on the GM recipe? How much how often? How much does he weigh? When did this start? can you put up a vid?

He looks great, good work with him :thumbsup. I would recommend getting him onto a commercial formula that will provide full nutrition. Another option besides Fox Valley is Esbilac, which can be picked up at the local pet store. It is made by PetAg and is for puppies. Be sure to get the puppy formula and not step down formula. It must be Esbilac, not another brand and it works great. My squirrels are on it and growing like weedes.
If you would like to PM me, I'm also in Ohio and can help you locate a rehabber if you would like. As the little fella gets bigger he's going to need some squirrely friends and a big outside cage. I know several good rehabbers all around the state and can help you find someone in your area.
Thanks for saving the little tyke, you are doing a great job!

Since you are a fellow Ohioan, I felt it my duty to respond to your post and add my opinion here. Your squirrel is BEAUTIFUL!!! I am glad to read he does not have any discharge from the nose/eyes and that he is not making any unusual sounds. (I am super paranoid about URIs.) Not sure if "New House Sneezes" affects Wild rodents, too, but Domestic rodents can get this "phenomenon" right after they are rehomed. It results in sneezing during the settling in period from air-borne particles, dust, bedding and so forth.
Out of curiosity, how do you like the weather today? Here in Brecksville we had over an inch of snow-arrgh!

What are you feeding him exactly? If I were you, I would got to the pet store and get the Esbilac for puppies. He looks to be in real trouble. He seems to lack muscle control. Have you tried putting some molasses on his gums to see if he's low on sugar?

Besides the best formula is 50/50 esbilac and FV. I wouldn't wait any longer on the FV.

1 cup goats milk
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup dannon all natural vanilla yogurt
I was told not to feed him puppy formula that it had eggs or some thing in, it and was bad for squirrels

Sorry, I didn't see the post that he wasn't walking now. Something is definitely wrong with him. Is he in a climbing cage? Has he gotten his legs caught at all? His front legs look to be broken, they are definitely painful, that's why he is squeaking when you put him down. Please be very gentle with him and PM me. If you are in the Columbus area, I can help you out as I'm currently in vet school at OSU.

Esbilac used to be bad, but now it's good. As long as it has probiotics listed on the label. But please contact squirrelsrule&bunniestoo immediately because his guy is in real trouble. :(

I really hope you two can work something out, even if you just take him to see her for a checkup. Would you be open to that? He looks really, really bad and if he doesn't get help soon, like immediately, I'm pretty sure that he'll either die or be horribly crippled for life. He really, really needs experienced help. He's suffering and I feel terrible for him.

I imagine this little guy is dead or still suffering now. :( Another a-hole who recoiled after hearing that his care wasn't the best. Took down his YT video, and cut all communication. Here he had a rehabber 20 min away, and a vet in training, but turned his back on it despite his little one losing his ability to walk under his care. People are such selfish, egotistical creatures, I'm amazed that we've made it this far. Fortunately, not much further probably. Five major extinctions (biological resets) and counting. This will be the first one self-imposed.

I hope that the little tyke is no longer suffering. The video was heartbreaking and to think that he didn't even get pain meds :eek :sad. The finder felt that they could provide the same care as someone who has been rehabbing for 9 years, is in training to be a veterinarian, and has access to veterinary care because he's raised a few wild animals in the past. The worst part is the finder felt he was doing a good thing by the squirrel. He said that he has lived a lot longer than if he had left him under the tree or let the cats attack him (I'm fearful that that second part did happen and that the little one is dying of the infection from a bite to the leg- something that some antiinflammatories and antibiotics may have corrected) and that he'd do what he could but had invested too much time and money in the little squirrel to give him up. If I were that baby squirrel, I think I would have preferred a death to cat attack, as horrible as that is, to death by whatever is wrong with the little tyke now, because that video was painful to watch. At least a cat attack is semiquick.
It is these cases that are so close and yet a finder won't let you try that haunt me as a rehabber. I didn't even get to give this poor little tyke the chance that he deserved. I deal with having to say no knowing that the animal will be euthanized and that's not easy either, but at least those animals don't suffer for hours to days. I hope that this guy realizes the error of his ways (I don't think he's a bad person, I just don't think he realizes what is available for his squirrel as far as medical care. I volunteer at a wildlife center that has done surgery on a 3 day old bunny to fix evisceration from a cat. The vet came down to check on the little tyke while i was there too and was so happy to see that the little tyke was doing well :Love_Icon. That's the kind of vet I'm in training to be and have access to now, if I had a sick little tyke I would definitely want it to be seen by someone like that). Next time he will hopefully bring the baby creature to me or the wildlife center (which is only 35 minutes from him) for care. There is a reason why people train to be rehabbers, it is not just feeding babies, there is so much more to know.
