My daughter is on her way here with a squirrel that has been caught by a cat. She says there are no visible marks on the squirrel. Don't know how big it is yet. I have a small hamster cage and a small dog carrier. Which would be better to put it in? Also have 875mg amoxil, that is the only antibiotic that I have. I have 50mg tramadol. I know I probably need to hydrate. I have flyer blocks that I use with Theo. From what she says, it's not really a baby and it's not fully grown. I will do what I can for the little love. I cannot keep it though. I don't have the room or another cage. And my man would KILL me. But, we will be ok till this weekend if you all can help me with what I need to do for the little fellow for now and then help me find where I can take him this weekend. I'm quite nervous. I don't know what shape it is in. Theo was such a tiny thing when I got him and the cat had just gotten to him. I don't know how long the cat had this little squirrel. Any advice appreciated!!! Do I need to go get some formula? I am out of fox valley? I guess we need to wait and see how big he is though, huh?

Where are you located? What you really need is Cipro (human) or Baytril (animal) for a cat bite.

I'm in Alabama. I'll look and make sure but I don't think I have either one of those. Let me check.
Update. No cipro. And I know I don't have baytril. I've emailed uni. She lives somewhere around here in Alabama. I'm just really nervous about what to do soon as the baby gets here.

Warmth first...then hydration...you can't give formula or meds without fully hydrating him. Many prayers and we are all here to help. Do you have a syringe for hydrating?

Yes I have a syringe. And I have a heating pad that doesn't turn off. Uni has contacted me too. My hands are just a shaking and the little thing isn't even here yet. Lol. Thanks so much. I'll keep you updated.

As daunting as it appears on the surface, it is pretty much like taking care of any baby squirrel. Just what Sammysmom said. Warm, hydrate, and access. You are going to have to check everywhere, moving the fur around so you can see all the skin. If you see any puncture marks, you will need to put him on AB's (hopefully Uni can get to you if there are punctures). As soon as you can, can you post pictures, so we can see what we are working with and how old he is? That will help in determining what feeding he needs and so forth. Hang in there! You can do this!! :grouphug
KASTILLO IS ALSO IN SOUTH ALABAMA. YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY TO PM HER AS WELL. BOTH UNI AND KAS ARE THE BOMB!!!

So....it's a girl! 9-10 weeks it appears. She is in her box with fleece. Heating pad half under box. She is a bit dehydrated and seems kind of weak. Been on the phone with uni. What a relief!!! I'm making a trip to uni's this weekend. Needed an excuse any way. Want to get Theo and Hayden together. I've checked every little inch of her and there are no marks. Of course I will be checking often to make sure. She's such a cutie!! She's scared to death. I told her....don't worry girl...me too! But we're gonna be just fine and help is just a message away!!

I got the info you sent. Thanks so much. Uni didn't think so. I'm gonna watch her really close and keep checking her. I'm concerned about her being dehydrated. So I'm gonna get on that soon as she gets warmed up. She is resting comfortably right now. In a cute little ball. I'm heading to Walmart to get stuff for goats milk formula. Got the hydration stuff mixed. Got my syringe ready. Hope I'm doing what needs to be done!!

Update on the little one. She's doing great. I am going to start antibiotic. I found one place on her. Can't tell if it's a claw mark or tooth mark but I don't want to chance it. She's such a CUTIE!! She weighs in at a whopping 125 grams. When I picked her up to weigh her she ran right up and curled up on my chest. Hope she does well tonight. Keep her in your prayers!!

I forget if I sent you the chart.
She would get 0.05 mls of the amoxi.
Give this twice a day 12 hours apart for 7-10 days.
IF you can get baytril or cipro we will switch to that! :thumbsup

Got it. I will see if I can round up cipro. If not I'm heading to uni's Saturday and I bet she has some. I know how hard amoxil is on my tummy. I imagine it will be bad on her. Thanks!!

So little bit is doing well this morning. She's eating her formula. Supposed to get 18ml twice daily but she's getting 6ml about every 4 hours or so cause that's all I can get her to do. She had amoxil last night. I told her this morning I think she has narcolepsy. She eats a few mls then those little eyes close and she wants to burrow down in her blankie. And she just fusses at me when I try to rouse her. Her left paw looks like it might be a little messed up but I don't know why. There are no marks on it or anything. It just doesn't seem to work like the other one. She's not dehydrated. Eyes nice and clear and shiny. Coat looking good. She's a doll. Gonna be really hard to give her up!!!!

Don't forget when giving amoxi to get probiotics into her 2 hours before or after the abs.
Oh something makes me think she has taken your heart already.........Hmmmmmm I wonder if she
will ever see Uni's. :poke:grin2:poke
Just a thought about her eating, sometimes they like to be stimulated during eating, if they appear to get antsy, just try stopping and stimulating, she is old enough so she doesn't need it, but she may have an urge to go, so try if she will allow. :grin2
Can you get a picture of the paw? A cat bite can be so tiny and then fester up and get infected.
This just happened to Duckman's little one, he smelled a terrible smell, and got the little one to the vet.

Just went home to feed little bit and give antibiotic. She ate well. 7mls is all but she attacked the syringe like she was starving! We laid on the bed with John for a bit. And (hehehehehehe) she walked over and peed on him. Then curled up under my chin and went to sleep. Oh my gosh. I am sooooooooooooo attached already! I love this being able to snuggle. Theo (my chippie) won't let me handle him anymore. He just gets out of his cage and does his thing and attacks me once in a while. So I sure do miss the lovin.

Here's my little girl today. And a picture of her little paw. She is able to grasp with it. But when she walks she kind of drags it for a sec. She's such a sweetheart! She's curled up under my chin right now snoozing. Precious!
