I have a male baby squirrel that looks 3-4 weeks old, he has all his hair and only the bottom teeth with eyes closed. I have had him for about 48 hrs. He started pooping yesterday but I have not witnessed him pee any. He hasn't been dehydrated since i got him, his skin rebounds instantly with skin turgor test. I tickle his genitals with cotton ball before and after feeding. I stopped the pedialyte since he isnt dehydrated and im giving esbilac formula. I see in other posts that fox valley is better? How many pounds do i need to order? His last feeding i palpated for his bladder and gentle massaged and yellow clear urine came out...it seemed full. Someone gave him to me because he fell put of a tree after they had cut it down and they said he took a hard fall. He is moving around just fine! What am i doing wrong? He also just had a loose stool this past feeding and I feed him 3 ml in a 0.5 cc syringe because im so scared pf aspiration! Am i feeding too much to cause diarrhea? I decreases the formula and gave pedialyte this last feeding in case. Help wanted!!

Okay, :Welcome do you have him on heat? He needs to be in a container that is half on and half off of a heating pad that is set on low.
VERY IMPORTANT: You must stimulate him until he pees. I find that using the corner of a tissue to gently flick their genitals is effective. How much does he weigh? You can use a kitchen scale and weigh him in grams if possible.

Yes, we need a weight on him to really give you an accurate feeding amount.

Does your can of Esbilac say on the label something about "with probiotics"? If so, hold for now on the Fox Valley and keep up the Esbilac - there have been some changes of late and you already have it.

if not dehydrated please stop pedilyte and use plain
water if needed. too much sodium can be dangerous.

I don't have a gram scale...im a nurse so i will take the squirrel with me to work tomorrow and weigh him. Yes i already have the heat pad on low and he has been warm to the touch every time i check on him. I tickled him for almost 3 minutes one time but he will try to walk away and so i hold him and he gets mad at me but i know he has to have it done but he still wouldn't pee...his bladder is empty now since i massaged it. With the loose stool should i give formula or pedialyte or both?

Oh goodness is he adorable!!! 3 minutes may not be long enough. Sometimes it feels like it takes forever for them to pee. However long it takes, you have to just carry on. Thank-you for helping him. Would you like us to find someone who may have others for him to grow up with? They do much better when they are with other squirrels.
