Recently our 6 month old black squirrel has been becoming more and more aggressive when it comes to feeding. Before he would never care, and we just switched to the squirrel block from the websites recommended. Its gotten to the point where we cannot even be in the room while hes eating even with the blankets over his cage without him freaking out and screeching. We've never teased him with food or anything, so I have no idea where the problem came from or what to do. Any tips?

Food aggression can be pretty common with (some) squirrels as they mature,
it's all part of their natural instincts and hormonal changes.
I have two that are seperate, male and a female. Both have started with the
food aggression, I get slashed just trying to put food in their cages.
Once the food is in, I leave, otherwise they both charge the cage growling
at me like they want to rip my head off.
They are the only two I have had like this over any food , in general just
about all squirrels can and will get aggressive over any type nut.
If he's hoarding food (such as nuts) it causes another reason as he's
protecting his stash. We recommend stashes be cleaned out to avoid this,
of course you clean out stashes when they are out of cage, not in.
