Why isthere so much contradicting info? Bell peppers, I have red they can eat them andthen I readthey can't. And the rodent blocks, read some where yes they are ok. And read they where not good for them. I get a headache just trying to keep it all straight. One minute seems I am doing right and the next it seems iam doing it wrong. Guess it is like raising a human baby, something is always changing.

Yeah I know, right? It's like if you read al the information available you'd be just as confused as when you knew nothing

Yes, that's pretty much the truth. And you'll find contradictions even within this Board because sometimes it's impossible to go all the way back through all threads (we started in 2005) and clean out the outdated information.

Even just this spring we are suggesting that folks who rescue pinky (newborn - 2wks old) squirrels feed them either a goat's milk formula or the NEW Esbilac with probiotics. This is a 180* switch from our previous recommendation of Fox Valley 32/40 nomatter what.

Wildlife rehabilitation is a very young 'science' -- it's only been formally organized since the late 1970's. ALL MEDICINES used in wildlife rehab is considered "off label"; in other words, nobody knows what really works all the time, and it's different in every species. So we keep learning, and changing, and evolving. And we're not afraid to say "oooops, that used to be the best thing but now we have a BETTER thing." Remember what ol' Darwin said: Adapt, or Die.

I know all this Adapting can be really confusing but stay with us and we'll just keep getting better!

I also find what is OK for one squirrel isn't for another, for example. My friends grey would get diarrhea from grapes, mine would not...(OK grapes just saw at my vets they are very bad even for dogs so out with grapes even if pealed, something toxic not the seeds the grape itself, so I don't take chances.) Now green pepper seeds my Charley Chuckles grew up on then for most of his life, then I saw where they were bad but they never bothered him, so I still gave them to him, just cut back. If we humans ate the way doctors tell us well none of us do, at least I know I want my junk food now and then...so I guess moderation. HOWEVER CERTAIN WILD PLANTS (which you can go look up in that thread) are poisonous and should never be given :nono As far as the blocks HHB did wonders for my CC when he had many issues, he was losing hair, and I was providing what I thought was a good source of calcium, magnesium, Vit-D but apparently not because when I switched to the blocks his hair grew in and he looked great and had them daily for the rest of his life :thumbsup
I believe it is up to each individual, and each squirrel to read and weigh out what works best for you and your squirrel, and sometimes it is a try this try that kind of thing....
WHEW was I long winded again :tilt
