Hello,

Does anyone know the ratio of water to formula for the esbilac in liquid form? Not the ready to feed but the liquid in the can. Is it the same 2:1 like the powder? Thanks!:thankyou

the canned you feed straight like it is.
You are better off with the powdered.

Didn't think so but I was trying to phrase that as nonjudgmental as possible.:) You're a rehabber...great. :thumbsup And three babies....:wahoo Sorry, the smilies are all I've got for you. I do know most rehabbers give the liquid without diluting it. When I found Sammy at 6 weeks the exotic vet had me give the liquid Esbilac without diluting it. But, your babies are probably smaller so I'm not sure. :dono. One of your fellow rehabbers should be along soon.

I've been trying to figure out the difference, and asked on another thread, because some people are really against the liquid. R&L posted the ingredients of both ( thanks, BTW) It appears that both are based on a 1:2 mix, only the liquid obviously already has the 2 parts of liquid. There are some differences - haven't had a chance to really ponder them yet.

I'm still trying to figure out what besides cost makes powdered better. I don't plan to buy liqud but someties that is all you can find, so it's good to know in advance ( call me Miss Proactive).

I don't think there is any difference. Cost would probably be the only difference. Once the liquid is opened is has to be discarded after four(?) days.

Right Pam. Also, most of us with the powder preference are rehabbers and we pay for our formula out of our own pocket. The cost and the fact that it does need to be tossed out if unused after opening is the reason I reach for the powder.

So what's the ratio for liquid esbilac?

Esbilac liquid is ready to feed, no need to add water. Years ago, there was one that did need water added, and the directions were on the can. If there are no directions I would assume it is ready to feed.

So what's the ratio for liquid esbilac?

Since Esbilac says to maike it 1:2 (water being the 2) I would assume it is 1:2 with the liquid.

Are there any rehabbers here who believe the end result is different? Sorry to beat a dead horse but this came up over and over when I was first looking for advice and some felt strongly that the liquid was nutritionally inferior. I just would like to hear if anyne has a strong opinion on the *nutrition* of each and why.

Also - to the comment about it lasting 4 days - I've always read neither should be served after 48 hours. :thinking

:thankyou everybody.

I stand by my post above about it being ready to feed. If you are meant to add water to it, the can will tell you how much to add, just as in the powder. If there are no instructions on the can, then feed it as is, and DO NOT add water as it will dilute it.

I thought it was 24 hours....I use powder too, and have only used liquid once, and I have always tossed away after a day. any that I have seen here is pre-mixed.

I have a can sitting in front of me and it says discard after 72 hours.

Ha! That's just YOUR can. I bet they print a different time on every can :D

I used the Esbilac in a carton with Roxy and it said ready to feed. ..that means DO NOT add water!! If you water it down, it is going to mess up the nutritional value. As far as how long it is good after it is open...IT WILL SAY on the box or can.

Hi, Im a rehabber. Definately dont dilute the can formula. And yes, the bummer of using it is u have to discard it before it spoils just as u would have to discard leftover formula made from the powder. Hope this helps :)

The first time I went looking for Esbilac I could only find the liquid ready to feed. My pet store ordered some of the powered but it took awhile. My vet told me to freeze the liquid it ice trays, then I could pop out how many I would need for the day. I thawed it in a shot glass placed in warm water. The vet said it lost no nutrients that way. I was told it could then last a long time.

Thank you all for your replies. I did dilute it just a touch the first night because I didn't want to make them sick. The can says it will be good for 72 hours but that is fine because they will go through it all by then anyhow since I throw out after I heat up once. I have other questions but I will post as a seperate thread. Tahnks agian!!!:thumbsup
