View Full Version : Will peppermint candy hurt a squirrel?

Ziggy found a peppermint Hubby left on his desk. He nibble some of it before I was able to trade him for a Tums (he has a real thing for the cherry ones). What should I do?:eek

He will be fine. So much for the whole "squirrels are repelled by the smell of peppermint" thing, huh?

Nope, just sugar and peppermint oils. Not the best thing to eat as far as the diet goes, but it won't hurt him in the least. :grin3

Thank you so much! At least one squirrel is definitely not repelled by the smell of peppermint. :) Ziggy was a little rascal tonight anyway. Hope the sugar doesn't hype him up even more. Again, thanks!

As long as it doesn't contain xylitol (some sugar free types might) he should be ok. I used to keep peppermint candies in my desk drawer, till the wild mice found them and well, let's just say apparently there wasn't enough peppermint to repel them....:eek

I see you use the trade method I used for my first two boys, Butchie and Joey. Worked infinitely better then me racing around the room after them saying akkk! don't eat THAT!! (THEY loved that though -- "look at her weird face and the cool sounds she is making!!" :grin3)

Yep, I tried that first. It didn't work well, but I think Ziggy thought it was funny. "Wow, Mom is really slow. But doesn't she look funny!" The mint was plain old sugar. Actually, Hubby was not suppose to have candy either.:tilt
