Don't I know what to do! She chewed through her bonding pouch and jumped out of my shirt and is now and crawled through a hole in the back of my entertainment center and is in with my DVDs and CDs. If I blocked the whole to the back of the entertainment center she'll be stuck in there. Is that what I should do? My fiancée just went to get a have a heart trap because I don't know what else to do. Somebody please help!

Can't you block the hole and open the front?

Oh my! I see you are not online so I assume you are on the hunt for Bella. Personally, I would not use the Hav a hart trap. I doubt that she weighs enough to spring it but I've never used one so I'm not certain. Even if it worked it would take a while to trap her and I think you need to catch her now if possible. If she gets loose in your house it will be very difficult to find her.

First, I would unplug the cords that are going into the entertainment unit. I would contain her in the unit if possible. THEN, I would go in after her. When you find her get some material like fleece or tee shirt, maybe a small throw or towel. It will be difficult to catch her in your hands because they are FAST. I would try to throw the towel or whatever you use over her like a net. You should be able to scoop her up in the towel. Let us know how it goes. Good luck! Stay calm!

Dim the lights be calm and quiet. See if it will come
out for a treat. Mine love pecans.

Hi HRT. I have been able to contain her in the cabinet of my entertainment center. As Grinderhead suggested, I blocked the hole she got in through. Then I put her pyramid sleeping pouch, the one she uses every night to sleep in, in there with her. I also placed a Brazil nut dipped in peanut butter right inside the opening of her pouch. I put her pouch in there hoping she will climb in there when she gets tired because during tent time the past 2 days, she has climbed in her pouch on her ow when it was time tot go to bed. All I had to do was bring the pouch up to her while she was clinging to the side of the tent. Do you guys think she will climb in there to sleep? I was going to wait until morning to see if she'll just climb in her pouch which will make it a lot easier to get her out. Do you think this is a good idea since she can't get out if the cabinet? There is nothing in there except DVDs and CDs... And now her sleeping pouch too. I know exactly where she is in there too... Underneath my favorite allman brothers boxed set...lol:tap. So if you think I should get her now and not wait until morning, I will try but I'm afraid to do that because like you said, if she gets out in the house, it will be very hard to find her. One of my friends on the NFSA board suggested I plug the hole and then wait until morning siNce I was able to put her sleeping pouch in there. Any thoughts?

P.s. If I do wait until morning, I don think I'm gonna sleep at all! Worried squammy over her... :eek

out for a treat. Mine love pecans.Hi lilidukes. I already tried that... Bella actually doesn't seem to like pecans which is weird since that's supposed to be one of their favorite foods. She does, however, love Brazil nuts and dried blueberries. I have turned off the lights to make it more comfortable for her. I've been able to block the hole she went in through and I know exactly where in the cabinet she is... But I'm afraid to go in there to get her. I was going to try and wait until morniNg to see if she climbs in her sleeping pouch.... Which would be ideal!! I will tell you though, I feel like a failed her. She chewed through the mesh window in her bonding pouch when I fell asleep for like 20 minutes! I feel like a terrible squammy!! I am praying She goes in to her sleeping pouch on her own! We've had such a good past 2 days... Bonding during tent time. She's been letting me pat and love all over her in the tent!

IM SO WORRIED!!!

Slmero,
I feel so much better knowing that she is contained in a known area. My guys go to sleep around 7 in the morning. When they do go to sleep, they aren't nearly as hyper if you wake up during the day. Yes, I agree that your chances of catching her are better. I was just worried about her lost in the entire house. That would be very bad for a unbonded flyer ... so many hazards.

Don't feel bad, all flyer owners at some point loose their flyer in the house. At least you know where Bella is. I lost Bonzai in my bedroom. I was trying to take pics in the morning. He was NOT cooperating so I went to the kitchen to get a treat. When I returned he had gone to bed SOMEWHERE. I had to wait until the evening when he woke up to find him. :tap Little stinkers! You'll probably notice at some point that Skul refers to them as 'little monsters'. Now you know why! :poke :grin2

Let us know when you catch her.

Let us know when you catch her.OMG! I finally got her into her pyramid at 7:30am... :thumbsup Just like I do during tent time, I picked up her pouch and brought it right in front of her face. As soon as I did that, she climbed right in. Is that a good sign? I expected her to already be sleeping in it when I opened the cabinet but she wasn't. She was still underneath the Allman Brothers album but she did eat half of the Brazil nut dipped in peanut butter that I had put inside her pouch so she obviously went into the pouch at some point during the night. She also chewed a little bit of the album she was hiding under (and I'm not mad at her at all for it. :Love_Icon) I'm just SOOOOOO glad I was able to contain her in the cabinet and avoided the temptation to try and get her with my bare hands because I think that would have been a disaster. She's still a bit scared of me because she is not yet bonded so she won't jump onto me unless it's to make an escape attempt. But I think we're definitely making progress because when we have tent time, she is so sweet and looks like she's having a blast hopping and gliding around everywhere. And when she stops for a Minute, she lets me pat and love on her all over. Her favorite thing is getting scratched behind her ears... It puts her right to sleep.

Now the problem is her bonding pouches. I don't trust any of them now!! They all have the same mesh material for the windows that Bella chewed through. So im not sure what im going to do now. :dono I was going to start taking her to work tomorrow but i'm worried about her pouches now... what do i do about this? Did I keep her in the pouch too long? It was so weird how she got out too because she slept from the time i took her out at 2pm to around 6pm. Around 6pm, i dozed off for about20 minutes and was awakened by Bella junping out of my shirt (I had her bonding pouch in my shirt against my skin so when she got out of the pouch, it tickled me and thats what woke me up). She then promptly ran under the couch, which scared me because my dog has actually ripped the lining from underneath a section of the couch in an attempt to get her bone which my ferret, Gracie Anne, had stolen and dragged under there (which btw, is her favorite hiding spot for stolen items LOL :grin3). So my persistent pooch, Miss Foxy Lady, thought that if she dug hard enough, the bone would magicaly come out from under the couch... so during her attempt at getting the bone, the lining in that part of the couch was ripped and it would be very easy for Bella to climb up in there. But luckily, she didn't. She just stayed under there watching me laying flat on my stomach with a long, extendable, bear claw back scratcher that i had put peanut butter on to try to lure her out (thank you guys for the peanut butter idea). I got it right in front of her face but after a couple minutes without touhing it, she had enough and scurried from under the couch out to my entertainment center. She was on top of my XBOX so I though I'd try to see if I could grab her. YEAH RIGHT!! After me trying to get her by hand (STUPID) for a couple minutes, I decided to block the hole she entered through and put her sleeping pouch in there with her so she would have a "home" place in there. I also dipped a Brazil nut in peanut butter and put it just inside the pouch to try and lure her in the pouch. Then I closed the cabinet door, leaned something heavy enough to keep the cabinet doors closed against them, and hoped for the best. I also made my dog sleep in my bedroom upstairs last night just in case Bella got out of the entertainment center (better safe than sorry). I was praying she would smell the nut I put in her pouch and simply climb in when she got tired enough. She usually goes to bed around 7am, just like your do HRT, so I went to bed and barely slept an hour because I was so worried about my baby Bella. I woke up exactly at 7am, weird, and got a towel as you suggested HRT to use as a net and then got the house real quiet. I opened the doors and saw that the nut was not in the pouch anymore abut Bella was in the same spot as last night, under the album. She had gone in the pouch and got the nut but then came out to eat it. My heart dropped because now it was going to be slot harder getting her out (so I thought). So I took her pouch and positioned it very slowly in front of her, just I like do during tent time when its time to go to bed, and after about a minute or so of her just looking at me and me talking sweet to her, she slowly climbed in. THANK GOD!!!!! :bow then I obviously rushed her up the stairs to her cage. She peeked her sweet little head out once I had her pouch fastened to her the roof of her cage and the promptly went to her water dish and started drinking. Oh I felt so bad for my baby!! Her FV formula came in yesterday so after I got her settled in her cage, I put a buffet of fresh food out for her and mixed up a tiny bit of formula for food and comfort. Also gave her a tiny clementine segment for a treat. Not sure if she can smell the formula but I put it right next to her water which is almost right in front of her pouch. I'm really hoping she tries it. She has yet to eat the Henry's Flyer Blocks yet.

This experience has solidified my decision to make my little spare bedroom Bella's room. It's the perfect size for her and I will make it the best little flyer room ever!! It will be like flyer haven in there!! :grin3I'm going to keep doing the tent thing for a few more weeks first though. Sorry for such a long post... I'm just venting after such a harrowing ordeal last night!

Anyway, disaster averted... THANK GOD!!!! And thank you ALL for your quick responses last night! I'm not sure I would've been able to keep so calm if it wasn't for my new friends here on TSB. I'm very grateful!!

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/Kirie88/smiley/whew.gif (http://s291.photobucket.com/user/Kirie88/media/smiley/whew.gif.html) My heart was racing until I got to the part where Bella was safe. Little stinker. When she is completely bonded to you, escapes like that won't be as critical because a bonded flyer will always want to jump on you. I have lost a sighting on my boys for a few minutes and I will walk slowly through the house. SUDDENLY, a flyer will jump on me. They just can't help themselves. :grin2 Before they are bonded, they can get themselves into trouble if lost in the house. All they know to do is hide and that is a VERY bad thing for something so tiny.

:wahoo Steph, you just survived your first lost flyer. :grin3 I really can't comment on the bonding pouch because I didn't use one. My first flyer, Bonzai was a year and a half old when I got him. He had a seizure history. There was no way that I was going to put an older flyer with his history in a pouch. I felt a pouch for him would just be too much stress. My second boy, Tucker was 8 weeks old when I got him. I used the pouch a little bit but he didn't seem to settle in it so I stopped using it. He has a big personality and became friends with me in a short time. I basically did similar to what you are doing with Bella in the tent. I didn't have a tent (great idea by the way) so we bonded in their room. It just takes time and patience. Bella is just shy now but she really does want to be your friend. You know, in nature flyers live in colonies unlike grey squirrels which are strongly territorial and really don't like their neighbors so much. OMGoodness, I just described myself. :rotfl :peace Flyers DO have instincts for community and family so Bella will LOVE you so much before you know it. Give it time. Maybe you could still use the bonding pouch but give her breaks to just be in her cage. Bella wasn't the first to chew through her bonding pouch. I have read of others that do it also. I think buying the travel cage for your office was a very wise move. See, you never know what's going to happen. :poke

When I read about Bella chewing the Allman brothers album I thought about Tucker in my nightstand drawer. Here's a picture of what he did. :eek :jump. Notice the edges of the drawer also.

That picture of the drawer Tucker "took over" is hilarious!! Everyday I read a funny story about something a flyer did and it brightens my day! I brought Bella to work for the first time yesterday and although the car ride seemed to scare her a bit, I think she did really good. I kept her in the pouch the whole time because the travel cage came in and the wire spacing is too big. It's 1"x1"... I don't trust it. So I'm returning it and getting the one from atticworx, the day tripper. I'm kinda pissed that I didn't get that one in the first place but I just wanted Bella to have enough room to be comfortable. Now I know she'll be fine in the smaller one. So, once I got to work, she slept almost the entire time though after about 5 hours, she was getting restless so I decided to bring her home on my lunch. I put her in her cage and put the bonding pouch up to her sleeping pouch and she climbed right in (she's such a good girl)!! We got walloped with snow today so i didn't go to work which was AWESOME because I got to hang out with Bella at home!! I put her in the pouch around 3pm but when I went in to get her from her cage, she was sleeping in her treehouse thing (which I haven't seen her do yet) and I slowly tried to pick her up from it to put her in her pouch and she bit me... Really hard too. I felt bad because I woke her up and either scared her or she was just grumpy from being woken Up. But then I was able to just dump her into the pouch and she settled down almost immediately and went to sleep. I just put her in the cage so I can make dinner. After dinner, it's PLAYTIME! Woohoo!!:crazy

Before I go, just wanted to mention that after a few nights of tent time, I have now turned my spare bedroom into BELLA'S CASTLE! She now has a room all her own. I am posting a link to the video of her first night in her new room. Here it is:http://youtu.be/sjyncIy4gy4. Notice the part where she keeps poking her head out of her sleeping pouch, which I put on the top of her cage so she would feel safe if she got scared. It's sooooooooo freaking cute!! And HRT, thank you for the support when Bella was a little escapee. It was so appreciated!!:thankyou

Hi Steph, yes I would definitely return the small cage. The 1x1 is too large for a flyer. Even if she couldn't get completely out (she probably could) it would have a definite risk for serious injury with her head going through the wire opening. I looked at that cage for a while, even considering it for myself, and I couldn't find anywhere on the description where they stated the actual wire spacing. That's too bad.

As far as the bites, try just putting your hand in front of Bella and see if she will climb into your open hand. As long as I have had my boys, they really don't like for me to pick them up in my hand. They climb in my hand but don't like it grasping them. Maybe this will save you from a few bites.

I love that Bella has her own room. It looks great! You are 'so owned'.:grin2 I can tell she really likes her teepee hut. At the end I saw blue in the opening. Was she stuffing her door with her bedding? They love to have small fleece scrapes or cotton balls to burrow under. I guess they love their privacy because they will block the door with bedding. In her new room make sure there are no electric cords to chew. Also check for any small holes in closets or anyplace that a flyer might get lost or in trouble. I would open and close the door to her room slowly just I case she is on the floor OR on top of the door. They can get in the craziest places.

I would dim the lights a little and stand close to her cage and hold my hands toward her to see if she will jump to you. When you see that little head bobbing, look out, here she comes. They absolutely love to glide.

I'm going to go find a picture on Bonzai's thread of his tree. They love the cat tree. It is great for launching off of.
