I've come begging for help. I need to rehome/rehab my squirrel Olivia, or I have to put her to sleep. I saw a somewhat recent thread about people willing to help another 4 year old squirrel and I am hoping someone will be willing to do the same for me and her.
We (me, Husband, dog, cat, squirrel, hermit crabs) have been living in this apartment for 3 years this May. When we moved in it was VERY animal friendly. A year or so after we moved in new owners took over and we eventually had to sign a new lease. Well, they apparently forgot to have us sign the new pet policy. So this past Wednesday night we got a note on our door saying it is against policy to have any rodent whatsoever in the apartments. We must remove her or be evicted. We have been arguing with them, that there people that have all these pets here that are now against the new policy and that she has caused no damage to the apartment (of which they are going to renovate after we leave anyway), but they don't care and aren't budging. Eviction/ moving really isn't an option. I have asked my parents and sister to have Olivia at their place in a spare bedroom/ basement (in her cage) and they won't. I obviously don't want to have her killed. I know rehabbing would be hard, but I think a chance at life is better than being dead. I put this post under emergency, because I really don't know how long they will give me to find her a new home and the sooner the better.
We have had her since she was about 5-6 weeks old. Saw a squirrel dead in the road across from a tree in my parents yard...2 days later my mom found 2 dead babies and one alive under the same tree...figured mom was the one dead in the road and so rescued Olivia. She is bonded to me, doesn't like strangers. Will still even bite my husband who, while never really interacting with her, has been present her whole life. she lives in a big bird cage and gets out to play almost every day. She isn't really that scared of the dog and cat, but doesn't like them either. she hasn't had too much interaction with them for the last 6 months to a year though. She has the instincts to build nests and hide food and she likes to explore. Last summer she was hanging out by the open window a lot so maybe she won't mind so much moving to the outside world....
We would love it if someone could help. we are in the southern NH, near the Mass border. I will drive her pretty much anywhere in the new England area if it means her life. I can give her cage and all her supplies as well to help.
Thank you
