Rhapsody

I have received a wild SFS that seems to paralyzed in her back legs atm and I am needing to get the dose for
Prednisone 5mg - wt 113 grams --so I can see if her lack of movement is due to an injury or if she is going to
be paralyzed for life. Please PM me the dose if you are able to help........ Thanks.

Step, I sent her the dose but I am not sure if it recommended as a once a day dose or twice a day. My formulary book just list the dose not how often. How often was your squirrel dosed? With dogs & cats it's usually a twice a day dose.

This was also 5mg pred.
For the first three days, give 0.04 two times daily 12 hours apart (total for the day is 0.08)
Then for the next three days give ONCE daily at 0.08
Then once every other day for three days at 0.08 daily

Do you happen to have a smaller cage to keep her movement more restricted?
Do you have a different cage with horizontal bar spacing or a cage with 1/2 x 1/2?
These little ones scare me when they can move their legs and they get them
through the bars. :eek

I wouldn't let her climb, do you have a bin she can be in a least until you are done with the pred.?
Beautiful coloring . Lucky girl to be with you.

She is in a snuggle pouch and does not come out of it --she jumped when I was getting a pic of her.

Poor little girl! So pretty. I know nothing about dosage, but wanted to say hi and lend my support!

Are you absolutely certain this is trauma and not MBD? I wish I had a $20 for every vet diagnosed spinal injury here that turned out to be MBD paralysis...

If there is even a shadow of doubt, you might want to start adding calcium...

I just checked on the little girl and I am happy (thrilled) to say that after only 1 dose of Prednisone
our flyer is able to tuck her hind legs up under her body...... a big step in the right direction.

Great news, so glad she is improving! What else are you doing for those legs, or is she to wild to be handled?

Joanna has completed her week of Prednisone and she is moving about well, with slight difficulty
still in right hind leg...... I will continue to monitor her and see if she improves any more.

She does not stay out when I am around, but will allow me to pet her while in her pouch.

Joanna - is becoming a fast moving little girl despite not be able to properly use her right hind leg.
She is able to do pretty much any thing her other SFS friends can do --she just does it with a
little skip and jump in her step.

....... she received her new cage gear today -- :)

Rhapsody, may I suggest either starting a new thread for her, needing a forever home now, or changing the title of this one to something like "Joanna the Flyer needs a forever home"? I can do a title change for you. :)

I hope someone is available to care for her.
She should only need just a little extra care.
