Last squirrely left home Thursday. She made no attempt to come back to me or the cage I'd left outside with the door open.

It was supposed to rain today. I didn't want the cage getting all wet so hubby and I dismantled it this afternoon and put it in the attic (for another future animal adventure perhaps).

About 6:00 this evening, it's raining outside and we're sitting and watching TV when we hear a banging on the backdoor. Would you believe it's Miss Sassy. She's mad as heck because it's pouring rain and her cage and nest are gone. She climbed up my leg and got on my shoulder, ate some nuts, and then promptly bit me, as if to say "you idiot. You left me homeless."

I set up her tent nest on my plant shelf under the roof overhang and she's all curled up in it. Guess she liked freedom until the weather got ugly, then she needed "mom" again.

Is that safe for her outside?
A raccoon could get to her couldn't it?
How old is she?

She's pretty close to being 5 months old. Where she is right now is pretty safe. Tomorrow I'll hang her tent nest under the roof overhang so it will be there for her.

I had a spring release that would come back to his release box
eveytime it rained for quite awhile, even after building a couple dreys.
I figured he just needed dry shelter while he prefected his "waterproofing"
skills which he must have eventually got right.
