When I have a squirrel who will never go out, they dont get outside things, they don't have the immunities that a wild squirrel has, plus they loose that inner instinct as what is save and what is not. Just my opinion, and one less thing to worry about
Now the ones who will go out side, I watch to see what the local wilds are eating and I give them that stuff and only that stuff ( from out side , of course they still get inside groceries)
hibiscus flower, branches , everything is eatable but ONLY if it has not been sprayed with fertilizers and pesticides.
My feeling has always been, if you dont know...... don't give it, and keep ALL out side plants away from squirrel play areas, even the potting soil can make them VERY Very sick!!!!

Well I didn't intentionally give it to her my mom gave me a Christmas cactus as a gift and as I'm sure with all little squirrels my Chippy just had to inspect it at the first opportunity. She was digging in the soil when I turned around and caught her, not sure if she ate any of it but she seems fine this morning. I'm used to having plants in the house, mostly just mint and a few other herbs, so I didn't think about the hazards of adding another, until I realized chip was relentless at checking it out.
