I have a squirrel (female) that I have had for about two months. She was a owner surrender. I have noticed that her privates are swollen and reddish pink. when I stimulate her, which she hates b/c she is about 18 weeks old, her private get really hard and tender b/c she cries and squirms. Should I start her on antibiotics? Her diet is squirrel board diet. The only deviation is Zupreem veg blend and cranberries were added to her diet.

Is her urine clear and odorless? It could be a UTI or she could be in heat.

Can you post a photo of that area?
Why are you still stimulating her?
How old is she?
I have never had a female longer than
overwintering, but I do wonder if she could be going
into "heat"?
Do you have access to a vet?

edit: I saw that you posted her age, so we will rule out
her being in heat.

How are you stimulating her and does she pass her urine when you do?

edit: Nevermind... just saw age... quit stimilating her, is she able to pass urine on her own?

I stimulated her to make sure urine was coming out. yeah doubt if she could be in heat way to young. Do you think she could be sucking on herself? I have had males do this but never a female. she was a pet surrender and I'm overwintering her. I have a vet if needed and also have meds. I will try to get a pic. Thanks for the quick response.

clear with slight tent of yellowish/red but she is eating acorn/cranberries. they both discolor the urine.

If she's peeing and not straining, try applying an ointment like Neosporin,
don't stimulate, watch behavior and see if redness resides.
If she's just externally irritated you'll see a change fairly quick.
If the redness gets more pronounced, then you can consider if AB's are necessary.
I wouldn't jump right on AB's, but you do need to know that she is urinating on her own.
