I had a problem, squirrels were eating a rocking chair on my front porch. I needed chew toys, and nesting materials. After nearly a month of it staring me in the face, I finally figured it out. Wood for chewing, straw for chewing, climbing, and nesting materials.
Boy am I in trouble when my wife comes home. :grin
You sure are in trouble if she doesn't know that squirrel is inside your house! LOL!

She does. She was with him nearly two weeks before her vacation. She even saw the log.

Hey! Makes sense to me, not like anyone else was going to
get much use out of it. :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

He likes chewing on it a LOT more than he did the flying squirrel I bought him to chew up. :eek
Seen just to the left of the rocker, on our massage table - I mean poop table. :grin

I love it! Hey Skeebo, squirrels love to chew! Hehehe....Sorry, I have to pick on another engineer, it says so in the Engineers book that I am supposed to!! :grin3:grin3

I had gerbils growing up, so I knew he needed something to chew on. I've been giving him sea shells, chop sticks, toilet paper tubes, my flesh, etc. but now he has a chew toy that I don't have to force on him, today. He chewed on the log for a while before he got bored. If he gets bored with this, I may need help from my engineer friend. I'm running out of room. :grin

I may be a bigger idiot than I thought. I've basically been letting him have free range access to our master bedroom and bathroom (not closet, shower or toilet), and supervised access to the whole house (minus the other bedrooms and bathrooms). His nest has been in the master bedroom bathroom since day three, and when I bought his Thanksgiving mobile home (30" x 19" cage), his nest moved inside, and he was quite happy. He never peed or pooped inside his nest (much), but with 48 hours of travel and sleep, his nest needed a bath. I washed everything, but he wasn't happy, so last night, he slept in my bed. Same detergent as before.
Who's the "idiot" now?
I know wifey won't let him sleep in our bed, so I gotta get him back in his.

As a fellow engineer, have you ever wondered why rodents love to chew on wire? My guy goes straight for the 120 volt side of my laptop PSU, but ignores the DC side.
I tried an experiment last night. I gave him a "hot" cable and a dead cable. Guess which one he preferred? The one which could cause the most damage ($$$).
I plan on running a much more controlled experiment. This was a one shot deal, and had a 50/50 chance of going either way.

The dozen squirrels in our front yard and dozens out back were sure getting use of it. :grin
I'd never throw it away, but rather give it to them in the "back 40". :grin3
We live in a subdivision, but have 2.5 acres of wooded (squirreled) land. We have a stone fire place foundation and fire box in front that was from an old school. It's full of chipmunks and my little dude loved it before I was warned not to let him go loose. I can't wait 'til Spring when he'll get to have access to it all. The first few days when I was "reckless" he mapped out the whole 2.5 acres.
Though their brain is tiny, it's quite amazing between the hard-wired stuff, and the room for learning "site-specific" stuff. They're an engineering marvel. :tilt

Truer words about squirrels were never spoken!
6-week old babies hiding broccoli in their fleece, practicing for every winter of their lives to come....dig dig dig...place place place....cover cover cover.....pat pat pat!
Hard wired. Then the agility and hand-eye coordination....phenomenal.

I ignore sigs, but for some reason I reread yours. I love Winnie and Dr. Seuss. I still have the two hardbacks of Winnie.

I'm amazed every day at how they (wilds) can do the tight-rope walk across electric wires. My dude is getting challenged every day. He can't be the "lame" one. He has to "rock" the lady's world. After all, he's mine. :grin3
