My friend brought her 5 yo (Mischief) over tonight, and he show all indications of MBD. I have gotten a Tums into him via syringe. I need to know the dose of infant Ibuprofen for a 520 gram squirrel. The Tums seems to already be helping, but it is obvious he is in sever pain.

.14cc infant ibuprophen every 4 hours as needed.

Plus a heating pad, etc., etc., you know the drill.

Thank you!!! Giving them the run down on everything! I will keep you posted. He is in really bad shape, but he is drinking liquids now and has the Tums in him, but I am going to get them started on Calcium Powder (no Vit D). :grouphug

I have to tell you, for all of his protests that he doesn't know what he is doing, I think that Rob has inadvertently taught all of us something about MBD in the older guys. We have had a pretty spotty record with older squirrels and Squirrel scared me to death. I think that Rob doing literal round the clock treatments much like the feeding schedule on a baby - has made a huge difference in this guy. Most people are not going to want to do this but I have to wonder if maybe doing at least one night treatment in the early critical days might not help a lot more than we might have thought it would... You might want to see if your friends would be willing to do that for maybe the first week with this guy.

I've thought the same thing myself. I do think the constant, structured care is what made the difference. That is what I passed on to Mischief's Mommy and Daddy. They will be doing the every 6 hour times, because that is what worked for Squirrel and so far is proven. The one thing I just noticed, just before they took him home, is that once he got the Ibuprofen and Calcium, he was more alert and snuggly, not lethargic. To me it was an indication that he wasn't in intense pain, and was more interested in the world around him. He even chittered at me at the end, to warn me to stay away because I was a stranger. He didn't even lift his head up when I first picked him up, so that is a leaps and bounds improvement. I will be working with them in the next few days, to ensure we don't go backwards.

I want to send a special thank you :thankyou to Crittermom:thankyou:grouphug:Love_Icon and Nancy in New York :thankyou:grouphug:Love_Icon (in PM), for responding to me so quickly. Once again TSB ROCKS!!!! :thumbsup:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:thumbsup

Poor sweet little Mischief. I am praying for you little buddy! :Love_Icon and :grouphug from Skiddil and I!

All of this MBD is making me so sad. I had no idea this was such a widespread problem until I came here to TSB. Even though I still keep going back to reread the healthy diet over and over, offer a bit of mushroom every day, feed HHB's, limit nuts to one a day and also still feed FV every night, I still have horrible thoughts of having to deal with it with Skiddil. I feel so bad for all of these folks and squirrels who are having to travel this road. Thank you so much everyone for just being here for these people, and Mischief, and Squirrel, and all the others that have come through here, and all the ones that are still yet to come. You are all so amazing! :grouphugTSB:grouphug

My friend called today, and Mischief developed an infection this morning, so I had her take him to the Vet. The Vet said that Mischief broke one of his top teeth off and an infection started there, which went up into the brain. Mischief died about an hour ago. :Love_Icon:grouphugMischief:grouphug:Love_Icon
