Hey guys! i have 3 baby squirrels that i have raised since they were pinkies. they are all males and they have always been together. they are about 3 1/2 months now and they started this chattering today while they were eating. i went over to the cage and one threw himself against the cage toward me and kinda made this growl sound. i've heard them do this to each other, but not toward me. then he started making the chattering sound with his teeth. then his brother started doing the same while the 3rd guy seemed like he was hiding. now i have them out and they are running around and being themselves. they love eachother! they sleep together, they play together. i just wanted to know if this is this normal? can males live together?

When they are out check their cage for stashed food or nuts.
I have a little guy that does this to me, even charges at the
bars. It usually means he's protecting something, most times
it's a food stash.
Mine even chatters at me when I clean his cage.
It is normal though, after all they are wild animals. How else
can they tell us (or each other) to back off! :grin2
If raised together they usually get along, some cases one may
have to seperate to avoid injury if they turn on each other .

Sometimes squirrels will turn on you for reasons beyond your understanding leaving you to wonder wtf happened! It don't mean they don't like you anymore, it just means they are sending you a message the only way they know how.
Sometimes males as well as females "wild up" and they can get very aggressive. When that happens they are letting you know their instincts are kicking in and they need to be free. Females also go through a heat cycle and can get aggressive, don't usually last long but that ain't pretty either. Neither is the testosterone rush some males go through.
Squirrels can be compared to raising rebellious teenagers at times...

They also can be reacting to various things in the environment, sights, spells, sounds, etc. For example, one person on here changed to pumpkin scented hand cream and her squirrel went nuts. Most times either the problem is found and/or the squirrel just calms down on their own.

Check the cage and sleeping area for hidden stash as suggested above, and if nothing is found then you can prob just
say the this behavior is normal squirrel behavior and part of them growing up...... it may never happen again or it may
happen a lot more --take note of the size of the cage they are in and ask your self if they are in need of more space?
