We have a new addition tonight, his name is Spark Plug, He is now warm and I am still hydrating him.

He pooped it was black and hard. No pee yet.

Normal?

His eyes are open, weighs 58 grams, a little thin, looks to be about 6 weeks. Starting him on FV
presently giving him 1 cc of pedialyte every hour he is strong taking it well, doesn't seem to be too dehydrated so at 11:30 I am going to give him FV.

Should I do a feeding in the middle of the night or will he be okay till 6 am?

thanks!!!!

Normal for sure. Mama's milk poops also possibly dehydration poops. It should normalize pretty quickly though with good nutrition.

Hard poops are from dehydration.
Can you post a picture?
Of the squirrel, not the poops.....:grin

I would feed diluted FV.
Make it 1 part FV to 3 parts water to start.:thumbsup

Make sure that the hydration fluid is warmed.
He needs to also be on a heating pad, set on low
and under half of his container.
He is so tiny, OMG, but too darned cute!

Mix up the hydration formula instead of pedialyte.
Just omit the salt.

1 tsp salt (teaspoon)
3 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)
1 quart warm water

At 58 grams he can be taking more hydration.
Remember the 5-7 % rule of thumb.
He can take 3-4 cc's of hydration.

Giving him pedialyte 1 cc every hour. Is that good enough? When can I feed him?

Should I do middle of the night feedings?

Think he is 6 weeks or so???

I just posted above.:tilt
Keep him on a heating pad, do you have one
under his container?
Do you have fleece that he can crawl into?
I would get a couple more hydration feedings in and
then try to do a middle of the night feeding with
diluted FV.
When you pull this skin up, does it spring back down?

Yup have all that, he is my fourth squirrel this year..:) Got three squirrels outside in the fish house now, they love the freedom, live in florida so in a few weeks those three will be free.

This guy is on a heating pad, curled up in fleece

Weighs 58 grams.

BRB time to give him more pedialyte

OK back. Gave him 2 cc's will go to 3 ccs at 10:30 in the three hours i have had him he has had a total of 5 cc's. He is strong, and LOVES to cuddle.

No pee yet, argh

Have him in a box, inside a cage, lots of fleece on a heating pad (pad under the box) , since I rehab other animals I have lots of cages here. When the vet called I thought he was a bigger older squirrel, so I pulled in a big cage. Well the cage is TOO big, so tomorrow I will get him settled in a little more homey cage for him.

He is so cute!

But then the three squirrels outside are cute too LOL

Thanks for the help!!

There are no ugly squirrels...:rofl4
If he is in a cardboard box, you will want to change it to a plastic container as cardboard can absorb moisture thereby promoting dehydration.

If you use a white sheet in the bottom of his container you can check for pee more easily. Congrats on the :poop
