Are broccoli stalks ok?

I recently bought some organic broccoli, and the stalks are huge! They are the size of medium cucumbers. I hate to just throw them away if they hold the same nutrition as the florets. Skiddil seems to like them. What do you all think, beneficial or garbage?

I don;t know what their nutrition is, but I would think that they're fine. I enjoy them! They're high in water and I assume are a bit less nutritious than the florettes, but I can;t see a reason to not give them. Even if they're woody on the outside (as bigger ones tend to be), I'd think that a squirrel would have fun skinning them like a branch and eating the tender insides.

Rex gets about a stalk a week and has been getting them for 2 years now. They are fine and very nutrious. He is lucky though, since I can't stand them at all!!!! My wife loves Broccoli, so he always gets my share! :grin3

I give broccoli :thumbsup :thumbsup --and have been feeding it to my squirrels for 7 + years. :grin
..... and they are listed in the Group 1 list, which are the best foods to feed.

Definitely OK. When I start the littles on broccoli I always put in some florets and then some 'sticks' cut from the stalk....it's fun to see which ones each baby prefers. Either way it's all good with broccoli. :grin

I'm so glad! Skiddil is deciding that she prefers the stalks over the florets lately, so for now stalks it is! :thumbsup
