I was cutting up my HHBs for my squirrels (I cut them in half) and one half fell on the floor. My one-year-old chihuahua/dachshund mix ran up and grabbed it before I could pick it up. Is it going to hurt her, or will she be okay since it was such a small piece?

My Miniature Schnauzer eats them whenever one drops out of the cages. He loves them, although I don't recommend feeding them to dogs on a regular basis. Your dog will be fine. :grin3

Right, I won't feed them to her unless it's on accident like this! I was mainly worried after reading the list of ingredients on the package and it showed pecans. After doing a little of google research I saw that pecans can be toxic to dogs and cause discomfort in their little bellies. That's the main reason I was so worried.

Unless she has a specific allergy to nuts or any other ingredients she will be fine :). I have a dachshund poodle mix; always looking for food those doxie mixes....:grin2

lol your dog food is probably worse for your dog hhb's are healthy compared to most dog food unless you feed raw diet solid gold or blue buffalo dog food then i would be more worried about what u give him daily than an hhb:thumbsup

Chocolate is bad for dogs, but you have to give them LOTS of chocolate. Pecans are bad for dogs, but you have to give them LOTS of Pecans. :crazy A vet once told me it was pounds of either that is toxic. It is good to ask though, as better safe than sorry. :thumbsup:thumbsup

I have a book of 101 things that are toxic to your dog. Nuts aren't in it (I just checked to be sure) and I've never heard it, but that doesn't make it untrue (though I was a Vet tech for 4 years, I had also never heard of a disease my dog got this Summer :dono) I can say that I had a poodle for 22 years that ate nuts all of his life, and my current dogs LOVE nuts and eat them all of the time. I have 2 pits, a pit mix, a mini dachshund, and a yorkie. They only get a handful at a time, but they've never been sick from them at all! I certainly wouldnt' worry over 1 HHB!! :thumbsup

OUNCES of chocolate is bad for dogs. Doesn't take much, less then one or two in many cases. I have seen what chocolate does to dogs. Nuts are a bit less dangerous; unless one has a specific allergy.

Macadamia nuts are supposed to be toxic to dogs; other then that I haven't heard anything about other types of nuts. I wouldn't feed them on a regular basis though when there are other more dog appropriate foods....
