About 30 min ago I was getting ready to give Theodore his formula. I decided to give it to him in a bowl instead of a syringe. Well not really a bowl. It was a small lid that was almost flat. I figured I should use something really shallow. Anyway he was enjoying his FV and I think he got some up his nose! He sneezed once. I didn't see any bubbles. I panicked of course. Grabbed him up. Turned him upside down. Did all the things I've read to do. He is not sneezing. I hear no clicking. He feels fine. I feel stupid!! Do I need to start an antibiotic just in case? All I have here is cephalexin 250mg that the vet gave my dog.
I don't know exactly why I decided to try it differently. He's almost 8 weeks old. I guess I thought it was time. Won't make that mistake again. I am so angry with myself! Anyway. Please let me know what I should do. And don't worry. Won't be feeding him with anything but a syringe from now on!
Thanks.

No! You do not need to start antibiotics. Theodore probably just snorted a little formula up his nose. That is completely different from aspirating formula into the lungs. Watch him and be alert for any changes but for now ... You shouldn't do anything.
Calm down Mom .. He will be fine. :thumbsup

It can happen, don't mean it did!
Observe and listen over next few days, he may be fine.
You really don't want to start AB's unless nessasary.
edit: You beat me to it HRT. :thumbsup

Thank you! I feel so bad! I'm in tears here! My child thinks I've lost my mind! But that makes me feel better. Will watch him closely.

They always do this when they first try to drink from a bowl. I've never heard of a squirrel aspirating this way, so don't worry. It's when we screw up with the syringe and shoot it down into their lungs that pneumonia develops.

I have been EXTRA careful with the syringe. To the point of obsessing! Have had no problem what so ever. I'm glad to know I haven't royally screwed up. I love this little fellow with all my heart! :Love_Icon

You HAVE to watch this video of Rhapsody's little Obi.
Now if Obi didn't aspirate after this, your little one will be fine. :grin2

It's amazing to me to watch him. He does something new every day! And he loves to play! He plays in my hair! And nibbles on my fingers. He grabs my hand with his front paws and flips over for me to rub his belly! I wasn't expecting that! He is such a joy!

The handsome and dashing Wendelll taught me a trick. here ya go.
when milk comes out the nose, put baby's head in your mouth and suck out the milk. just the nose and mouth in yours and you are now a giant suction machine! works great! don't get bit! lol
