I see that your squirrel is a baby.
Listen with your ear to it's chest and see if you hear clicking.
It is important to feed them with the syringe pointed UP at their head and their HEAD pointed down at the syringe.
do not feed with the squirrel looking UP at syringe due to choking.
If squirrel chokes and milk comes out nose, put head of squirrel in your mouth and suck the milk out the squirrel's nose and lungs.
If you hear clicking squirrel may have pnuemonia and will die if not treated today with meds.
do you have a heating pad ????? is squirrel warm??? do you feed every 4 hours???

Yes, please, tell us diet (what, how much, how often) as well as age and history on this one.

Also, I looked back in your posts and this one was cat caught, right? We told you to get antibiotics but I don't think you responded to that. Did I miss your response? Did anything happen with that?

SSM helped you out before with formula and such, correct?
Do you have antibiotics for this squirrel?
I am going to alert SSM.

She is on fox valley 32/40 is the only thing she gets waiting on HHB. I uploaded a picture. She is also laying upside down or streching completely out

When she is out is she walking at all.
How often are you giving formula.
Did you put her on antibiotics?
Could she have fallen somehow?
Is she peeing and pooping?
Is her tummy hard?
What size syringes are you using?
Do you have her on heat?
How much is she eating when she does eat?

She gets formula every 3-4 hrs
Have no AB, what should i give and where can i get it?
No way she could have fallen
Yes she is peeing and pooping
Just checked her tummy is not hard
3cc for now because the 1cc i had started messing up. Just got an order placed for 1cc and nipples from HHP with the little money i had.
SSM said she did not need a heating pad
She eats between 3-4cc and would eat more if i would let her but i was told not to over feed her

This is a picture of her now. Best way i can describe it is she is on her hind legs with her head in her legs kind of like in a ball.

The best antibiotics are usually Cipro or Baytril. Do you have anythng on hand? If not, ask your friends. The two I mentioned are very common. Cipro is for people, Baytril is for pets. You can also call pet stores as some carry antibiotics for fish, reptiles, and birds that you don't need a prescription for. Fish Flox is a common name. Do you have an established relationship with a vet who could prescribe? All you need is one pill.

Also, I would put a heating pad under there. You might also offer a sock filled with rice or beans, heat it in the microwave, squish it up to make sure there are no hot spots, and give it to her to cuddle with.

Were can i find baytril or cipro. Don't have many friends i stay to my self my baby squirrel is one of my only 3 real friends this is why i am so worried
farrelli
10-21-2013, 01:22 PM
You have to get it from friends, a vet, the pet store option I outlined, or ordering online. Where are you in FL. We have many members so maybe one could lend you some if close.

Oh yeah, you're in FL so you have the luxury of going to see a vet given that squirrels are legal there. Can't you just go to one? It would be a lot better than us just guessing at what's wrong.

10-21-2013, 01:37 PM
See if the pet stores carry Fish Flox. Baytril is prescription only while Fish Flox isn't. Even if you didn't see the cat get to this baby she may have before you arrived on the scene. Cat saliva is toxic to squirrels. I hope you are able to get some help soon for your little friend.

Likely needs antibiotics and if anyway possible should see a vet (tho lots of vets won't see wildlife unless in the custody of a licensed rehabber). Baby's fur looks spiky. Is he hydrated well enough? I know he's on formula but if he's not well might need extra fluids. No chance he could have chewed something that might have made him sick? Does he eat anything besides formula? Sorry if you've answered that question. Any rehabbers close by who could take a look at him and maybe get him on meds ASAP--or get him to his/her vet? Feel better sweet baby :Love_Icon
Oops--didn't notice you're in Florida. You have all the resources needed to get your baby the help he needs. You're LEGAL!

Called between 25-35 vets none are wildlife certified and will see squirrels or i would. Got ahold of one the would see her but i have to be a licensed rehabber and im not although would be willing to become one but baby roket does not have the time to wait still trying everything will check on the fish flox thanks for all the help

This little one is also starving to death.
He needs food. You are feeding him way too little.
His eyes are opened and he has to be at least 6 weeks old 3-4 cc's is NOT
going to cut it, he is starving.
IF he weighs 120 grams he needs 8 cc's of formula every 4 hours.
You cannot do this all at once, I am in a hurry with not much time to post.
He needs much more than you are feeding, but you have to work up to that amount.
Can you weigh him on a gram scale?

Make sure she is well hydrated as well, and if she's showing little interest in food or water, rub some molasses on her gums to perk her up and give her some energy. Other syrups will do in a pinch.
Good catch Nancy!
I have to go too, but others will be on.

Still too little, you need to get a gram scale to find her weight, and then feed accordingly, she is really being underfed.
BUT you have to increase the amount slowly. Next feeding give her 5-6 I will explain more later.

I was gonna say this baby was NOT getting enough to eat. 3-4 CC would be going into my fat newly furred infants. This baby needs to correct food and must more of it. Its belly will not be streatched enough for a jump right up to 6-7 or 8 ccs. But increase over the next few feedings. Thanks for seeking help. Lots of good advice here. More food, but feed slowly. If the baby can actually suck the plunger of the syringe itself, then they can aspirtae easily. You need to restrict the flow out of a 3 cc. Hope all goes well!

Just got done with her feeding she took 5cc and still wants more should i continue to feed her? Also, I'm very careful when feeding her so not to asperate her. She seems to have a little more energy now and is moving around after this last feeding.
Thank you NiNY

If I can find someone to take her will you hand her over.
Did you know that cat siliva can be deadly to squirrels?
She is not in good shape and this could potentially be a life and death
matter, will you allow me to put some feelers out to see if someone can
take this little one?
If you are in Florida, you will always have tons of babies, probably more
than you will want to handle, but this one needs help asap I believe.

I told you Saturday when I was there trying to get her from you....only 3 or 4cc's for that day ONLY to get her used to the food since you only gave her pedialyte for 3 days. I then told you to make it full strength and give all she wants. Are you not doing this, I have offered to take again today. You still refuse I understand you want to do this and help her, but if things arent going well you need someone who know what they are doing to take her, study and learn them you can help the next one, there will be more, you live where there are many.
I hate to see this one die just because YOU want to keep her.

YES I would let her have up to 10-12 cc if she drinks it slowly. let her get full.

OK, a cat did not have the baby at all...Correct? so then the baby was on the ground? if baby did not fall and a cat did not have baby then...1) get a heating pad an put under half the cage....keep feeding baby but more at a time ..take your time and don't push the formula fast..let baby eat 5-7ccs. Do not let your friends handle baby it may be too much. You are ok.....take a breath and next feeding give baby 5-7ccs. Mix the foxvalley 1part (say 1/4 cup) to 2 part water (1/2 cup) shake before you take out enough for the feeding (keep in frig) gently warm before feeding (test on your wrist) make sure not too warm. Is she moving more tonight?

I know you want to care for this little one, but she sounds like she needs more care then you can provide. Sometimes we have to love these guys so much we have to decide to let them go to give them the gift of life :Love_Icon:Love_Icon.
At the very least, would you consider meeting with a rehabber from florida who could show you hands on, how to help this little one better? They could assess if she needs more, or if you could continue to care for her with their guidance.?
I know these guys get to you and you want to be able to be the one to get them through, but you posted asking for help, and if that help means giving her to someone who can pull her out of this crisis, that may be the path you have to take, for Baby Rocket's sake :Love_Icon:Love_Icon
