I have a 13 week old male, grey squirrel, one of 4 I have been raising since they were pinkies. This is my 3rd time raising squirrels. This little guy somehow has injured his right rear leg. He is dragging his foot behind him, he is very quiet and hiding. I have tried to get a little food/formaula into him. He takes some but not a lot and he normally was a very enthusiastic feeder. He lets out a screech when the others try to come near him. He has allowed me to pet him. I am so worried seeing this normally spunky happy baby who normally feeds in a frenzy so lethargic and hiding. It is a long weekend here and there is only one vet who treats wildlife. I am unable to get this little guy anywhere before Tuesday and I am worried that he won't make it that long. I have tried searching for a rehabber in my area with no success. If anyone knows a rehabber in Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton area of Ontario I would be so happy and relieved to take him there to be looked at. I do not see any swelling in the leg and hope that it may just take a few days. This happened last night and I am not sure how it happened. I apologize if this is not life threatening but I am afraid it is. I did not know if he would make it through last night, he did but I am still terrified and my heart is breaking.

Poor little one :grouphug

Perhaps separating him from the others might be best.
Give him a heat source and something like infant ibprophen
for pain relief.

Thank you lilidukes. I am going to try a little baby ibuprofen. I was starting to separate him and he wanted back in his home so badly. I put him in a separate little area. He did actually venture out for a minute so that was nice to see. I have also received the name of a rehabber and hope to get some help there. Just praying for my little guy. :Love_Icon

Just talked to the squee's mom. I think it is a strain or pull. Not likely a break since she can manipulate the foot and he is OK with it. She is going to monitor him for the next 12 hours and if there is any change for the worse she has my number and I can take a look at him. For now rest and quiet!

Thank you everyone for your help. I heard back from the rehabber and have some peace of mind now, she has been a great help. I will keep you posted on my little boy (that is what I call him with great love).

I did not add that he is a little spunkier today. He has come out on his own to get some food and look around, then he will go back and lay down but he is not being cranky with the others near as much, hopefully he is on his way to recovery:grouphug
