Ok I apparently need to build an indoor cage for all my squirrels... too many squirrels not enough cages... story of our lives right?? Any way I have the plans for a nice cage but am not sure what kind of wire to use. I know it has to be small so they can't fit thru the opening and heavy so they can't chew thru it. What do you guys recommend??

1/2" is good I personally prefer to use 1/2" x 1".

I noticed this thread as I was about to post. What did you end up getting.
Amazon sells galvanized, but it has a high concentration of LEAD !!!
Looking for something safe, strong and smartly priced in 100 Foot rolls .
Any ideas ?

Both Home Depot, and Lowes, sell 1/2 inch hardware cloth.
Normally it comes in 25 foot rolls.
Never have heard of lead as a part of galvanizing. Zinc is the metal.
Tractor Supply also carries it.

This review is from: Mat Midwest Air 308243B Tech 36-Inch-by-100-Foot 1/2-Inch Mesh 19-Gauge Galvanized Hardware Cloth (Tools & Home Improvement)
bought this to protect tomatoes from squirrels. It had powdery, crumbly finish on arrival. Tested positive for lead with do it yourself kit from home improvement store. Sent swatch of this hardware cloth to analytical lab and returned positive for lead at concentration of 4200 mg/kg. To compare, a swatch of hardware cloth bought at local home improvement store (which grossly looked cleaner) tested at the same lab measured 870mg/kg for lead. I think this is likely a widespread problem with imported products which are not closely regulated. We won't be using this in the garden or around living things we are concerned may ingest the lead.
Oh wow, I have purchased mine from Lowe's of Tractor Supply in the past. Tractor Supply has a varity of widths and lengths, they will gladly order what ever you want if not in stock. Terrible shame there is so much lead in Amazons wire.
