Hey guys. Thank God for this board: for needed info and entertainment when I have nothing to do. TSB replaced facebook! Anyways, Redzilla split her lip. It wasn't bleeding when I noticed it last night (but made her squeak if I touched it) but today during feeding it started bleeding. If she was a child she would def need a few stitches. They was blood on multiple spots on the towel. I stopped feeding her bc it was getting worse and she was almost out of formula anyways. At a distance, it looks like she got her lips done. She's also making the puff sound more often then usual. Should I clean it somehow? Liquid stitches? Of course she got dirt in it and when I started lightly trying to clean the dirt out of the cut it started bleeding again so I stopped. I fed her at 12 and the second bleeding was at 6.

no i don't think liquid stitches a good idea on the lip, too much danger of her eating some. it's poisonous.
just gonna have to let it heal on it's own, and make sure she eats good. how old is she? i would just let her get over it naturally. poor baby.

It might be best if it's not pouring blood to just let it heal on it's own and keep it clean. Unrefined coconut oil has some antibacterial properties so you might want to try that. At least it would be safe to use even if she did ingest it.

I'm not sure how old she is. She has been different then my first squirrel, whose age I have always know bc he came to me with his eyes closed. Her eyes were open but was a lot smaller then the one with his eyes closed. I was always confused how advanced she was even tho she was so much smaller. The syringe opened her lip today so should I try a different method of feeding her FV? She loves blocks and all the vegs I give her (eats so much better than my 8 month old). The dirt was from potting soil if that makes any difference.

Will she lap from a little dish or from a spoon? Warm it like usual and put a little in a spoon and hold it under her nose and see what she does.

Vetricyn is good and supposed to not hurt if ingested.
edit: sorry I spelled that wrong , but here's the link, http://www.squirrelsandmore.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=vetericyn
It might even be available at a local feed and seed, I know my local co op carries it.

She has been drinking her FV out of a bowl which is SO MUCH easier for me, except a little messier. I used the vinegar. I figured out how she cut herself. The hooks that keep her water bottle clipped to her cage is really tight bc it leaks if it doesn't sit up straight. It gives me the chills thinking of her chewing on the hook and cutting herself.
