We raised this girl from a new born. Had her 3 years. Released her when we had to move to town. She has been doing fine the last year. she comes to the porch to eat sunflower seeds, fresh fruit and other food. He fur has looked rough the last few days looking ruffled in spots. This morning when I observed her, she has hideous looking things on her. Some look like raised pimples with holes in them, one growth actually looks like a sea creature, a growth about 1/8 in long standing up with a hole in the top.
Can anyone tell me what is afflicting her? Are these worms? The wife will be devastated when she sees her next.
Sorry for the pic sizes, but needed detail I figured.
Several days ago.

Your little girl is covered in warbles from a bot fly which happens to wildlife this time of year.
The warbles will emerge on their own when they are ready in about 4 weeks and your baby
should recover with out any issues and return to her normal life in the wild.

They are bot fly larva, also called "warbles" and are disgusting but unless in an area where they impede breathing they are not harmful. When the larva is done developing they will drop out and those nasty sores will very quickly heal.
Even if she will allow you to touch her, leave them alone. If you kill one trying to squeeze it out it will release a toxin and that WILL cause problems. She will look awful for a while and then she will get better.

Yep, defiantly bot flies. My little guy is covered in them too, but he seems to be doing ok so far. Takes a few weeks for them to fall out though. I hate the nasty things! :grouphug

Despite the horrible appearance, the bot flys will leave and the wounds will soon heal. In fact, they almost look like some have already left or are just about ready to leave the squirrel.
Usually 100% recovery. Occasionally, they can become infected so keep an eye out but the boy fly actually has it's own anti-biotic effect to prevent infections

Thank you all so much. I thought it was life threatening. Of course I realize that is always a possibility due to complications. I will wake the wife shortly and tell her.
Her name is Google and she is a real hit on my Discussion forum I have. She just introduced her wild baby to us. While she is is reverted mostly back to the wild state (we can't get her to come to us anymore) she seems to be doing good and likes the porch. She voluntarily came in the house once, when she was injured and stayed in her old cage and then was ready to go when healed.
Thanks again everyone for such fast response, your all great.
