I have a young squirrel which is about 12 weeks old. I based this on when I got her I compared her to images of other squirrels on the board and I have taken care of her for about 4 weeks now.

My question is would she be safe to release this weekend in the ohio climate this time of year. She is very active and she plays with me by running around my body while I stand with her on me. Very playful with my hand as if it were another squirrel, she is able to jump and climb, she is however still drinking FV at times but also eating HHB and drinking water out of a bottle in her cage.

I believe I have spotted her bothers and sisters in a tree at the neighbors yard and they are very active running up and down the trees.

Would you release her so she can enjoy her life out side rather be in a cage.

I'm sorry no one has responded yet. The list is absolute crap today and lots of people aren't getting attention. We're usually better than this. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

13 weeks is the bare minimum for release and then only after going through the "soft release " process which you may or may not know about. If not, say so. However, fall babies, especially in colder climates like yours would spend the winter with mom, so we very much prefer overwintering. Can you do that? She can still be released in the spring even if you're super bonded, or, if she's happy indoors, perhaps she can be a forever indoors squirrel.

Do you know about proper diet? It's SUPER important. What's hers? Here's a link to the nutrition thread:

You Def need to have to do soft release but based on your climate over wintering is in order. She should be in a very safe cage outside for about 4 weeks so she can get used to the outside world, in the spring.
