So my girls are now 7 1/2 weeks old and weigh 220 gms. They are still on fv 3 times a day and refuse to eat any solid food. Silly girls. Anyway Aspen has always had softer stools than Oakley but this afternoon while feeding and cleaning them up I wiped Aspens bottom, that has full on diarrhea now,and there was bright red blood on the cotton ball. Not a lot... just a drop of it. The diarrhea started a few days sgo and I added some acidophilus to the formula. I'm wondering if antibiotics are now in order for her?? If so what kind and what is the dosing?? Its the middle of my night so I will try to sleep and check back in an hour or two. She still is active and has a good appetite too.

Ok in reading another thread she may have coccidia. It is mucousy and I now remember a strong odor from her now. I'll look at my stash of antibiotics and let you know what I have.

Had to go to work. What is the best antibiotics to treat this? I want to treat before she gets too sick. Also should I withhold formula and switch to rehydration fluids??

Here's a link about it:

You can give supplemental hydration between feedings.

I'm getting slow but steady results now from the SMZ-TMP -- also called Bactrim, Sulfatrim or Trimeth. If you can get some from a vet that would be the best to give her right now. Don't expect results for at least 4 days.

ok :thankyou for your info. I'll see how she does. This morning she had an almost normal stool. It was formed but soft. Maybe she just had a GI bug or something.
