Help, I have found 2 Squirrels.
My older squirrel guy seems to be clicking while breathing. I have bionic from my cats but need a dose. He just started this today after sucking down formula too fast.
He weighs about 2 ounces. Any idea on the dose?! I am panicking!
The neighbors brought us a very sick squirrel. It's smaller than ours, eyes not open and struggling to breathe-with white larvae of some sort?
Help?

Where at in Ohio are you? County would be helpful and I can get you the numbers of some rehabbers in your area. I'm not sure what Bionic is, I wouldn't use it.

The younger squirrel, the one the neighbors brought us, died. Please advise about my other guy, he seems so tired and sick.

I'm sure it has pneumonia if it is clicking when breathing you will have to give it Baytril or Cipro. Get a weight on the squirrel. I will PM some of the "squirrel doctors" here. Try and call friends see if they have cipro on hand.

I saw on a wildlife site (http://www.petsandwildlifeforum.com/showthread.php?t=772) that amoxicillin was ok (Biomox is apparently amoxicillin). Was that wrong? I don't have any other pet meds on hand. I have Cipro for people, but that's it. Should I give anything else? He seems to be breathing better.

Sent. I know OH has Pet Supplies Plus caries Capstar. That will kill the maggots (larvae). The person I PMd might have ABs. I'm not sure. Pet Supplies Plus also carries fish antibiotics (fish flox or some version of enrofloxacin). That would at least get you started.

Cipro for people is perfect. What mg is it? And what do the squirrels weigh in grams? or ounces really, I can cheat and use an online converter :grin2

Thank you. The younger squirrel from our neighbors passed away. He was very frail.
The Ciprofloxacin is 500 mg pills. How can I administer and how much?

I am guessing his weight to be about 2 ounces, we don't have a scale that can measure something that small...
Any medication will have to be dosed by weight. Cipro 500mg is great-just have to have the weight on the baby squirrel.

Ok, I called and will hope for a call back. I cannot contact Msriri, the site will not allow me access.

Based on an old scale (the best I have), we think he is 2 ounces. It is not incredibly accurate...

OK here's the little one, I would say that 50-60 grams is a safe guesstimate.
I will dose for a 60 gram squirrel and give you the "loading dose".
This dose is only for tonight.
I will pm you the info.
