I found them today. I live in Florida and we just had a big storm which probably blew them out of a tree. A hawk snatched one (couldn't save that one) and my dog picked up one and I found the other one lying in mud. They are tiny and have black tails... Please help me to identify! Thanks so much!!!! They are being warmed up and I will start hydrating soon.

No, they are not a squirrel, but you will follow the same protocol for hydrating and keeping them warm.
Waiting to see what others say they are....... mole, vole, field mouse?

No...... they are not flyer, I've had flyers before, and they have their side flaps from birth.
I am thinking possible baby field mouse --look at those round ears and long back legs.

I think flyers but side flaps hidden in pictures. Max's Mom can you get another picture or tell us if they have skin on each side of their bodies?

They do seem to have little flaps at their sides....but do we have flyers in Florida? As far as weight - I dont know how I would weigh them... They do seem to big for mice.

The second pic does have a squirrel like look to it (???) --Do these precious little babies have side flaps to them?
Can we get a full shot of one of them with you holding the sides out?

SammysMom

Definitely flyers in Florida. If they have flaps, they are flyers! Do you have a kitchen scale that weighs in grams? Put them in a container and weigh, then weigh the container and subtract.

Yes, they are flyers for sure. Do you have a weight on them? Warm, dark, hydration first, same as big squirrels. Then you can go with the gm recipe. Precious!

They are flyers. Have to be fed very often. Please rehydrate every two hours for the next 24 hrs, and then I believe feedings should be every 3-4 hours until they are 4 weeks, then every 4-5.

Hopefully the flyer peep will chime in. I have no idea how old they are, but they are definitely southern flying squirrels. Sorry about the one the hawk got, poor baby.

Get a weight on em and let us know! Congrats flyer momma!

Those are differently flying squirrel babies! We are having a blurp with our Fox Valley formula just now, so do go with the Goat's Milk. You should be able to find information in the breed specific section in the flying squirrel pages, There should be pictures of the ages, plus. At least they are past the pinkie stage, that should make life a little easier on you all. Lots of flyer people on here, let us know if you need any help.

There seems to have been issues with quite a few babies having trouble digesting it. I am raising 5 greys on the gm recipe (you will also need full fat yogurt and heavy cream to make the gm recipe). I think at this age the flyers do better on the gm even before the issues being seen with fv, I have seen this issue w/fv with flyers before (eyes closed babies). Good luck with them!

Trust me, there have been some problems, but not for everyone. The issues have been with babies under 5 days old.....once they are past their first week of life all is well with FV.

Ok! We are still good! Fed them goats milk and yogurt (waiting for a poop and pee before adding whipping cream), both fed like champs. Weighed in at 1/2 ounce each. I have a little boy and a little girl. They are cleaned up and napping! :grin3
